G7 Nations Agree To End Fossil Fuel Emissions By 2100

A recent meeting of the G7 has resulted in a unified agreement to phase out fossil fuels and “decarbonize the economy” by the year 2100.

Leaders of the G7 countries have committed to environmental policies that would, according to German chancellor Angela Merkel, “decarbonize the global economy in the course of this century.”

This means a complete end to fossil fuels by the year 2100 with a 40 to 70 percent reduction of emissions from 2010 levels by the century’s midpoint.

Fossil fuels, which is a general term that represents the burning of natural resources such as coal, oil, and gas to produce energy, are thought to be a major contributor to greenhouse gases and, ultimately, global warming.
