Mexican Drug Cartel Threatens Gov't With Revenge

The powerful and violent Next Generation drug cartel, which operates out of the Mexican state of Jalisco, reportedly released a recording vowing to take revenge against the government for the massacre of 42 of its gunmen in the adjacent state of Michoacan a week ago. Although the authenticity of the recording has yet to be verified, the Attorney General was sufficiently concerned to call an emergency meeting to adopt special security measures. The audio recording also contained threats against the region's community self-defense organizations, formed to defend the population from drug-related violence in the absence of an effective police response.
