Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE (16th to April 1889-1825 in December 1977) was an English comedian and filmmaker who shot to fame in the era of silent film. Chaplin was to become an icon in the world thanks to his on-screen character "The Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures of the film industry.
