Mexico: Discovery of 40 Bodies Raises Fears of Disappeared Relatives

Violence is again in the news in Mexico, putting to rest the idea that the country's situation is returning to normal. In the central-western state of Jalisco the discovery of 40 bodies has raised fears among a dozen families that the cadavers may correspond to their relatives who went missing following a failed military operation on May 1 by the army against the New Generation drug cartel. The family members have filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission concerning authorities' investigation into the disappearance of their loved ones. Since the Mexican government launched its war on drugs in 2006, more than 26,000 people have been reported as disappeared. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico City. teleSUR
