Black Death horrifies China, part of Yumen city sealed for pneumonic plague

Part of western Gansu province's Yumen city has been sealed after a man surnamed Wang died of pneumonic plague last week.

Pneumonic plague is a deadly infectious diseases because human who get infected can die within a day. The plague bacterium is transmitted by fleas and cycles among wild rodents.

Human beings can get infected in different ways, including flea bites, handling skins or flesh of infected animals, or contacting infected pets. One the bacteria gets to the lungs, the disease can be passed onto other people via cough droplets in the air.

Some 151 people who had contacted with the man are under quarantine. The Chinese man got infected from a dead marmot that he had fed to his dog and later died of the pneumonic plague.

In China, people often die of plague by contacting with infected marmots.
