A U.S. man in his late 20s or early 30s was caught attempting to swim to North Korea, according to reports from South Korea.

An unidentified government source told Korea’s Yonhap news agency that the man had tried to swim across the Han River in Korea’s Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), at Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province on late Tuesday night.

The man, whose name was withheld, was swimming northward with the current at around 11:55pm. He eventually got tired and was found lying on the shore by South Korean marines who arrested him.

The man allegedly told officials that he wanted to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
