We are used to see Nušić as a cheerful and benevolent critic of small-town mentality. However, this season, the Serbian theatre shows us a much more macabre and deadly face of Nušić in which we can see the dark side of our present time. A representative example of such new interpretation of Nušić’ work is the play Mister Dollar. Director Snezana Trišić put Nušić’ play into a contemporary context and posed the question of where and around what today’s self-styled social elite gathers and who are its members and how they came to the positions we find them on in Nušić’ play. It is an exciting, dynamic and revealing comedy reinforced by Brechtian songs that render to it a particular charming quality.
