Vietnam to Mark 40th Anniversary of War Victory

In just a few hours, Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, will host a parade to honor the 1975 victory of Vietnam over the United States, in a war that took the lives of 2 million Vietnamese and 58,000 US troops. The defeat of the United States and its puppet government in South Vietnam was achieved by the combined forces of the North Vietnamese Army and the National Liberation Front (Viet Cong), with the support of a massive anti-war movement in the United States and across the world. The US intervention in Vietnam began with the introduction of intelligence and military personnel in the 1950s and lasted until 1975 with the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. teleSUR
