00:00Pigs and training.
00:13How smart are pigs?
00:15Pigs are extremely intelligent.
00:16They have been compared to the emotional level of a two to three year old child, so they
00:21can easily get bored.
00:24Are pigs destructive if they're not challenged and stimulated?
00:27Pigs can be destructive if they're not challenged and stimulated.
00:30That means that an inside pig is more likely to destroy furniture, tear out carpet, rip
00:34up wallpaper, and look for food in your refrigerator and cabinets when you're away.
00:41Can pigs learn tricks like a dog?
00:43Pigs can learn to do tricks just like a dog, but dogs are motivated by attention and positive
00:48reinforcement.
00:49Pigs are more food motivated.
00:51They can learn most any trick, it's a matter of having enough treats.
00:55I like to use animal crackers or whole grain cereals for training treats because they are
01:01lower in sugar and not high in fat.
01:06Can pigs walk on a leash?
01:08Pigs can be trained to walk on a leash, but some pigs take to walking on a leash better
01:12than others.
01:13Some may need a coaxing cookie to relax.
01:16You can't force a pig to do something it doesn't want to do.
01:18They have to think it's their idea and it's done on their terms.
01:21Imagine trying to convince a two or three year old child to do something.
01:25They'll do it when they're ready.
01:29Pigs can do sits and stays, but the time they will sit and stay depends on how many cookies
01:35you have.
01:39Will a pig use a litter box?
01:40A pig can use a litter box with some training.
01:43I know many pigs that do.
01:45Pigs are very clean animals and they do not like to soil the place that they like to sleep,
01:49so a litter box is a good option.
01:53Can you give a pig kisses?
01:55If you want to, you can go snout to snout with your pig for sure.
01:58I give kisses to my pigs.
02:02Will a pig roll over like a dog?
02:04When they're happy, they will plop down on their side and roll over for a belly rub.
02:11How can I exercise my pig?
02:13The best way to exercise your pig is to use its natural habit to graze and explore and
02:18search for food.
02:19For example, I throw a couple handfuls of air-pop popcorn on the lawn and they go wild
02:25searching for the little kibbles and nibbles.
02:28It gets their body moving.
