Baxter, a beautiful black and white cat, had been in and out of the animal shelter, until he met, Jeff and his true Forever Home.

Baxter is a beautiful black and white cat. He looked cuddly on the outside but when he was brought home the talons came out. Everyone thought Baxter had a personality problem. He was overly rambunctious, taking out his excitement on arms, legs and feet. Poor Baxter was returned to Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles twice. Jeff had an issue too. Jeff also had an overly rambunctious cat, Sookie, at home. When he found Baxter it was a match made in cat heaven. Now, both cats take their wild behavior out on each other and leave arms, legs and feet alone.

00:00I needed Baxter because my cat Sookie was out of control.
00:13Sookie would come and attack me, she would grab my elbow and then I would look and I
00:17would be bleeding.
00:18It would be like a drive-by shooting.
00:20You know, I love her dearly, but she was, I was just getting bitten every day.
00:25And so I thought, I need another cat and a cat that will be as aggressive as she is.
00:33Enter Baxter, my arch nemesis.
00:35What a cat, let me tell you.
00:37First time I met Baxter, I thought, cute, fluffy, sweet little guy roaming around with
00:42some other cats.
00:43You know, this is going to be an easy one to get adopted.
00:46Boy was I wrong.
00:48Meow!
00:49Blood, scabs, scars, it's bad.
00:53We met Baxter last year at an adoption event that we were hosting at the center.
00:57He was a youngster, about six months old or so, cute as a button, just, he was a terror.
01:03He had no manners.
01:05He wanted to play, he wanted to tackle, he wanted to drive everybody crazy.
01:11And so I heard about the Best Friends Animal Society and I told her what I was looking
01:17for and she said, we have the perfect cat for you.
01:21Jeff had expressed to us that his cat was a tough, or what we call rough player cat
01:26and needed somebody who wouldn't let her boss him around and as soon as he mentioned that,
01:32we knew it was Baxter.
01:33We knew that the only cat that could put up with that kind of behavior and dish it back
01:37would be a cat like Baxter.
01:39They said he had been adopted before and returned and that he was unadoptable.
01:45Every time Baxter went home, I had high hopes that it was the right fit for him, but there
01:49was always this little seed in the back of my mind that said, oh, I hope he doesn't bite
01:53their toes when they're sleeping.
01:55Oh, I hope he doesn't jump on their face while they're in bed.
01:58Since Sookie obviously can be aggressive, I was concerned there might be a little bit
02:05of bloodshed.
02:07Thankfully, after a little bit of skirmish, as all cats will have, she realized that there
02:13were going to be some sort of limits to what she was capable of doing to him.
02:17I always said he needed somebody who he could beat up on, but that could beat him up, too,
02:22because that's what he wanted to do and that's what he needed.
02:26So the fact that Jeff had a cat that was an equal match for him, that they could rough
02:30house together, took away from him wanting to rough house with his person.
02:34So that was the ideal situation for him.
02:37Sookie has improved so much since he's been here.
02:42It ends up he's more energetic than she is.
02:44She has plenty of energy, but he has even more.
02:48And Baxter, it's rare for him to slow down.
02:51My life is so much happier having Baxter.
02:55He's entertaining all the time and he's incredibly sweet.
03:01He did bring him back to one of our events where we did awkward family photos and they
03:05are the ultimate awkward duo.
03:08Jeff came with his little tuxedo on, Baxter came with his little permanent tuxedo on,
03:14and the two of them were just such a hit at the event.
03:16They're totally adorable together and their personalities are quite similar, which is
03:20funny.
03:22He wasn't a good fit for, you know, most people because he was a little too crazy, a little
03:28too wild, overactive with their kids, attacking, so on and so forth.
03:34But he's perfect for me.
