00:00Hi, my name is Dr. Campbell and today we're gonna have a discussion about fleas
00:15Our discussion starts with an excellent question from Hillary P
00:19Her question is this every spring my roommate and I have a horrible flea infestation
00:26They come out of our carpets. They make our life miserable and we're spending hundreds of dollars on exterminators
00:32Well, Hillary P. Let's talk a little bit about fleas and I hope you won't have to spend that kind of money in the future
00:39We do this one two three approach. We treat our pet. We treat the house and we treat the environment
00:45How do we treat our pet? Well, there's a variety of
00:49control methods out there front line
00:52Vectra
00:53Revolution advantage comfort us for the majority of the time when used correctly. They're all effective. What about the house?
01:01Vacuuming can literally get up 95% of adult fleas
01:05Plus it picks up those ugly larvae. What about the environment?
01:10Well, you have to pick up something called an IGR
01:14Insect growth regulator and you treat the environment now all of those horrible eggs
01:21Horrible larvae the pupae and the adults you're treating all of them at the same time
01:26and then you won't have to use an exterminator and you can utilize excellent flea control on your pet and
01:32Keep them flea free for the entire season. We all are aware of
01:38shampoos
01:39Dusting spraying all of those methods to prevent fleas. The truth is they've got no
01:45Residual activity 24 to 48 hours fleas come roaring back
01:50So those products can be effective in the short term yet. Let's use a monthly flea prevention for the long term
01:57Do you have any questions you'd like me to answer just submit your questions in the comments section
02:02We'll see you next time and remember there's nothing stronger than the human animal bond
