00:00Hello, I'm a Labrador Retriever and I'm proud to say that I'm the most popular breed in
00:13the United States of America.
00:15I am gentle, intelligent, loyal, and happiest when engaging in activities with the family.
00:20I need a lot of attention and exercise, so if you have an extremely busy schedule, I
00:24may not be the best dog for you.
00:26We were originally bred in Newfoundland during the early 1800s as a smaller version of the
00:30Newfie and used to retrieve fishing nets and loose fish in the icy waters of the Labrador
00:35Sea, which we are named after.
00:38Our life expectancy is about 10 to 13 years.
00:41We stand 21 to 24 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 55 to 80 pounds.
00:47We labs are exceptionally healthy, but we are prone to hip dysplasia, retinal dysplasia,
00:51and knee and elbow problems.
00:53Some of our most distinguishing characteristics are short, dense, weather-resistant coats,
00:59our webbed feet, and our otter-like tail that serves as a rudder when swimming.
01:03We have what is known as a soft mouth, which was developed to help us retrieve birds and
01:07other game without damaging it.
01:10We are the easiest of all breeds to train, so don't worry if you're not the most experienced
01:14trainer.
01:15I catch on quickly and I'll make training me as effortless as possible.
01:18I really want to please my owners and I will do anything for a little affection or a treat.
01:23I will do okay living in an apartment as I am only moderately active indoors, but I would
01:28be at my best with at least an average-sized yard to run around in as I have a lot of energy
01:33to burn.
01:34I am the type of dog that likes to work and play hard.
01:37Let's have a look at what makes me the most popular breed in the USA.
01:41I am intelligent, outgoing, and family-friendly.
01:44I originated as a smaller version of the Newfoundland.
01:47I live about 10 to 13 years and I am exceptionally healthy.
01:52I am the easiest of all breeds to train and will do okay in an apartment, but would really
01:56love a nice yard to run around in.
01:59Remember, I am at my happiest when I'm with my family, so make sure to spend plenty of
02:03time with me.
