00:00Hey there! I'm a Bichon Frise. We are one of the happiest, friendliest breeds around.
00:13Can't you tell? I usually believe I'm the one running the house, but don't think
00:17too much of it. Mostly, I'll just follow you everywhere and be right in your lap every
00:21time you sit down. I'm very affectionate, loyal, and happy, especially around my family.
00:26I love them so much! Children are the best, and I can get testy if they play too roughly
00:32with me. Oh, I mentioned I love my family, right? My name may be French, but my family
00:37actually originated in Europe's Mediterranean region around the 14th century, maybe even
00:42earlier. We're the descendants of the standard poodle and a water spaniel. A lot of the time,
00:47sailors would bring us on their ships so they'd have some company during those long sea voyages.
00:52We were also a favorite breed of Spanish and French royalty for many years, which added
00:56to our popularity. A Bichon Frise usually lives around 12 to 13 years. We typically
01:02grow between 9 to 12 inches and can weigh around 10 to 20 pounds. We don't really shed,
01:08so we're great to have around if you've got allergies. But, our fluffy coats do need
01:13regular grooming. We're prone to developing liver and blood problems, so regular vet checkouts
01:17for us will always be worth it. I'm a little difficult to housebreak, so train me early
01:22if you can and stay consistent with it throughout my life. I can learn to do tricks pretty easily,
01:28though. Once I get the hang of something, I'll be so excited to show you what I know.
01:32I can live in an apartment just as easily as a house. I've got lots of energy, but
01:37don't need a lot of exercise. Regular short walks do the trick for me. If you keep me
01:42home alone for a long while, I might bark up a storm. So, if you're in an apartment,
01:46your neighbors might not like that. Here's a little recap for you. I'm one of the happiest
01:51dogs around and wonderful with people and pets. My breed started in Europe around the
01:5514th century. I can live about 13 years with some loving care. I'm not the fastest learner,
02:01so please be patient when training me. And I'm happy living anywhere as long as I'm around
02:05my family as much as possible. Now, who wants to cuddle with me?
