00:00Why do I have passion for parrots? Parrots are beautiful, they have flight, they are intelligent,

00:09they understand when you're sad, they mate for life, they're just incredible creatures.

00:14My name is Rose Levine, I am the founder of Parrots First and I have a passion for parrots.

00:21A parrot is a hook fill bird. Parrots are anything from parakeets all the way up to macaws.

00:28What is a parrot's natural environment?

00:31Most of them come from very warm regions, but very damp regions.

00:35Here in California, ideally for the birds, it should not be below, say, 45 degrees or above 80.

00:42If it's above 80 degrees and they're outside, the birds need to be provided with ample shade.

00:49How do you house a parrot in your home?

00:51Ideally, a parrot should have as large a cage as you can accommodate.

00:55Plenty of space for them to move around, have different toys.

00:59It should be a safe haven for them. The parrot should be happy to go in their cage.

01:04What kind of toys do parrots need?

01:06Parrots need a variety of toys. They need toys that they can chew, toys they can destroy,

01:13toys they can manipulate, bells to ring, and they need foraging toys.

01:18A parrot would spend their day in the wild looking for food, finding food, flying back with the food.

01:26To just have it sit in a bowl is so boring for them.

01:29We have cups that we put paper over and the birds have to rip through and break in their food out of there.

01:36Nuts, their special treat. They love those kinds of things, and it keeps them thinking.

01:41They're very intelligent.
