Sadiya was a horse rescued by the Lange Foundation when they discovered that she was pregnant. They were looking to place her, but she couldn't be moved before she dropped her foal. She had her baby and he's about a month old. Scout is perfectly healthy and getting sturdy on his legs. Sadiya and Scout have found their forever home and are waiting until Scout is strong enough to be moved.

00:04 Sadie actually came from Lancaster shelter.
00:07 The first day that they brought her down,
00:08 we thought she looked a little chunky.
00:10 I had our vet out here the following day,
00:12 and indeed, she had been seven months pregnant.
00:15 Taking on a pregnant horse, you have
00:17 to treat them with kit gloves.
00:18 You have to give them supplements.
00:19 During the birthing of a foal, they
00:21 can suffocate if they don't come out of the birth canal
00:24 properly.
00:25 We missed seeing the little scout born
00:27 because it happened between 9 at night and 5 in the morning.
00:30 I guess he was a perfect little boy when he came out.
00:32 We didn't have any issues with him.
00:34 The first day that Scout was born, we had our vet up here
00:37 to assess them, making sure that he was OK.
00:39 Everything was perfect.
00:41 So from the point that little Scout was born,
00:44 we've been very touchy-feely with him.
00:45 It's called imprinting.
00:47 The more touching you have on a little foal like that,
00:49 their personality comes out.
00:50 And the more trusting they become of humans.
00:54 I'm the founder and president of Lange Foundation.
00:58 Knowing that I've saved these horses,
01:00 plus the others that are here at this sanctuary,
01:04 that's hardly any.
01:05 We're talking about hundreds of thousands that need saving.
01:08 And there has to be more national awareness of what
01:12 is going on with these horses.
01:13 And it's going to take a lot more than one very small animal
01:17 sanctuary to make an impact on these lives.
01:20 I feel the same way about when I go to an animal shelter
01:24 and I get 10 dogs and 10 cats.
01:27 When I leave, all I can think about are the ones left behind.
01:31 You don't think about the ones that are safe.
01:33 That's done.
01:34 They're safe now.
01:35 But what about the ones left behind?
01:38 There's never any self-satisfaction
01:39 in the rescue world that I've ever found.
01:43 Sadiya is the most loving mother.
01:46 She's very protective of him.
01:47 But if she knows you, she will let you come in and touch
01:49 the cow.
01:50 Her personality, she's calmed down quite a bit.
01:53 She's very loving.
01:54 She's very trusting.
01:55 And she wasn't like that when she got here.
01:57 She was very fearful.
01:58 Today, she's very calm.
02:00 She lets us all go in there and touch her little boy,
02:03 pet her, take her out for walks.
02:04 We turn him out in the front now.
02:06 She's a completely different horse now since last year.
02:09 Sadiya and the foal did find their forever home.
02:11 The family is wonderful.
02:13 They've got some teenage kids.
02:14 They're into 4H.
02:16 They're very hands-on with their animals.
02:18 I went out and did a facility check.
02:20 The little pigs, goats, they had a little sheep.
02:23 And they're a very, very loving family.
02:25 We're very lucky that they decided
02:26 to pick Sadiya and her foal.
02:29 They're going to have a wonderful, wonderful life
02:30 ahead of them.
