00:00Hey Mia, how are you?
00:09Oh, good girl.
00:11This is Mia.
00:12Isn't she sweet?
00:13Mia is our beautiful 13-year-old dingo.
00:18The dingoes have been in Australia for over 4,000 years.
00:23They're found all through Australia, so everywhere through Australia, right?
00:27Yeah, it's true.
00:28Except for Tasmania.
00:29Except for Tasmania, yeah.
00:30Because it gets a little bit chilly there.
00:31Yeah.
00:32Mia kind of looks like a dog.
00:35She's actually a descendant from the Asian wolf.
00:38The dingoes wouldn't make a very good pet.
00:40Unlike the dogs, they're not very lovable, you know?
00:43If you got a dingo out of the wild, they wouldn't always want your affection.
00:47This is the normal colour that a dingo would have, but sometimes the dingoes can be more
00:52of a darker colour, and sometimes even white.
00:56Sadly, some people don't think that dingoes belong in Australia, and there's a bounty
01:01on dingoes in some places.
01:03There's a big fence throughout part of Australia called the Dingo Fence that was built in the
01:091880s in attempt to keep dingoes out of sheep yards because farmers don't really like dingoes.
01:16Now, in the wild, dingoes breed about once every year, and they have about four to six
01:21pups, don't they, Robert?
01:22Yeah, they do.
01:24They can also grow up to 40 pounds.
01:26They can, can't they?
01:27So they can get pretty big.
01:29Yeah.
01:30But if you look at Mia, she looks pretty big and chunky.
01:33She's gorgeous.
01:34But out in the wild, the dingoes get really lean and thin.
01:37That's because they're scavengers, so they look for any easy prey item.
01:41Mia is just one of our gorgeous animals here at Australia Zoo, so make sure you tune in
01:47next time, because there's many more to come.
01:50And subscribe to the Pet Collective channel.
01:52Come on, Mia.
