00:34German Shorthaired Pointers date back to the early 1800s in Germany where we were bred

00:39to be the perfect hunting dog.

00:41Cross breeding between Spanish Pointers and other scent hounds gave us the best of both

00:46worlds for hunting.

00:47We can easily find birds and point to them.

00:52And we can sniff out any animal that's on the ground to help our hunting buddies.

00:56These abilities make us the all-in-one hunting dog, sort of like a canine Swiss Army knife.

01:01By the late 1800s, our breed had become one of the preferred hunting dogs in Europe.

01:05Today, we are still amazing hunting partners, but are also known for our great companionship.

01:12We usually live between 12 and 14 years.

01:14We're considered medium-sized dogs standing between 23 to 25 inches tall and weighing

01:20between 55 to 70 pounds.

01:22We are a very healthy breed, but some things to watch out for are hip dysplasia and retinal

01:26atrophy, especially in old age.

01:31German Shorthaired Pointers have a very muscular body, making us athletic and lean.

01:35Our coat can be a liver color, a combination of liver and white, or black and white.

01:40Our undercoat is very dense, making our hair waterproof.

01:47We are very intelligent and respond well to clear lessons and commands.

01:50Just don't be too harsh.

01:52We are a little sensitive.

01:53My ideal place to live is in a house with a huge yard or next to a big field so I can
