Katya Lidsky answers a question about kitty personalities. How do you know the true personality of a kitten? Is the personality of a cat at a shelter their true personality? How can you tell?

00:00Hi, I'm Katya Lidsky, and this is The Cat Connection.
00:04Today, we're going to talk about cats and personalities.
00:12I want to adopt a kitten who's really outgoing and friendly.
00:17Is that the kind of personality he's going to have when he grows up?
00:20Well, kittens are not fully developed yet.
00:23Their full personalities haven't come out, so not necessarily.
00:29Cats are kittens at a shelter, an adoption event.
00:32Often, they're afraid or unsure or nervous about the shelter environment or the adoption
00:37event environment, so what you see there is not necessarily what you're going to get.
00:43You may fall in love with a shy, timid kitten at the shelter, but when you bring that kitten
00:47home, he could be friendlier and more outgoing, or he could grow up to be a really friendly,
00:54outgoing cat because kittens haven't shaped their full behavior yet until they're a little
00:59older.
01:01The most important thing is training, training and bonding, so create wonderful, positive
01:07associations between you and your cat.
01:10If you have time and energy to adopt a kitten, make sure you train them properly so that
01:16you can create a happy, healthy adult cat.
01:19If you're able to do multiple visits, that's a great way to spend some time with the kitty
01:24before you decide on adoption.
01:25Also, a lot of shelters and rescue groups have meet-and-greet areas where you can sit
01:31for a while and spend some time.
01:48This has been another episode of Cat Connection.

01:55We'll catch you next time, and until then, make sure that you love and nurture your pets.
