Bashii was one of the first Sumatran tigers to come out of Indonesia in 30 yrs he loves his milk ice blocks and rolling in elephant poo when he walks around the Zoo. He is amazingly powerful although highly endangered, we think there are only about three hundred Sumatran tigers left in the wild they are hunted for their bones which are used in traditional medicine. Tigers actually have stripes on their skin as well as on their fur. They like rolling in the elephant poo it's like cat nip for them. Tigers actually have stripes on their skin as well as on their fur.

00:00This is Bashi, our stunning Sumatran tiger.
00:12Isn't he beautiful?
00:13Now, we've got Mark in here with us, just to make sure that Bashi stays nice and happy.
00:20But at the moment, he's licking one of his favourite foods.
00:23It's a milk ice block.
00:25They absolutely love them.
00:27We actually went to Jakarta when I was nine years old to pick up Bashi here when he was
00:33just a little cub.
00:34It was the first time in 30 years that they'd let a tiger cub out of Indonesia.
00:41It was an incredible experience.
00:42He's grown up really big now.
00:44He's about four and a half years old.
00:46I've gotten really heavy and really muscly.
00:50He loves the smell of elephant poo.
00:53Now, of course, we have a lot of that around Australia Zoo, because our elephants poo about
00:5770 kilos each.
00:59So sometimes we miss a little bit, and they'll come up to it.
01:03The tigers will smell it and roll in it.
01:06It's kind of like catnip for them.
01:08It's pretty cute.
01:09What's interesting about their fur is that those stripes are unique to every single tiger.
01:15It's kind of like a human fingerprint.
01:18If you shaved all of this fur off, they've actually got that striped print on their skin
01:24as well.
01:25Isn't that cool?
01:26The tigers are such stunning animals, but unfortunately, they are in a lot of trouble.
01:33They think that only about 300 Sumatran tigers are left in the wild, which is extremely sad.
01:40See, they're killed for this gorgeous coat of theirs and made into rugs and fashion pieces.
01:47The number one reason that they're being killed is for their bones.
01:51People use tiger bones for traditional medicine, which is absolutely sickening.
01:56We've got lots of other gorgeous animals here at Australia Zoo, so make sure you tune in
02:01next time.
