00:30We're not really sure of Spunky's level of sight.
00:40We know he has some vision in one of the eyes.
00:43The other eye he has no vision whatsoever.
00:46You really can't see very well.
00:47He wasn't taken very well care of and if he is as old as they say he is, then the teeth
00:53were never taken care of and you probably are going to have to take some teeth out.
00:57For some reason the vision seems to be worse than others and I have noticed that on occasion
01:02he will maybe not be paying attention or something and he will walk into something.
01:06It's really sad to see.
01:12It certainly is more difficult to place not only senior dogs, also it's difficult because
01:18he is a special needs dog.
01:37So the cataract surgery, we position them first.
01:40We make a small incision and we use an instrument to clear the lens.
01:44So we remove the cataract basically.
01:48Right after surgery they can see very, very clear.
01:56So Spunky you're doing great.
01:57I'm going to see you in two weeks.
01:58I woke up on a Sunday morning.
02:15I had been looking at pictures of senior dogs, small dogs online and I saw the picture of
02:21Spunky and so I called the Lange Foundation to see if he was still there and I was so
02:26happy that he was.
02:27I asked if it was okay if I went in and visited him and when I saw him on his little bed in
02:32his cage there, he just looked at me and it was all over.
02:36I knew I was going to go home with him.
02:38The thing that sold me on him really was that he had had cataracts and I have cataracts
02:42and we were just meant to be in a dark house together alone.
02:46My vision is pretty bad and I'm waiting to have the same surgery as Spunky.
02:50I did want to have a dog who wasn't going to be pulling me around a lot.
02:54Well I think we both tend to watch out for things that are sticking out of bushes.
02:59We walk into poles, we both do at the moment.
03:02So I think we watch out for each other.
03:07He's so curious that he just runs everywhere, checks everything out.
03:10He's so independent, so smart.
03:12I think a senior dog like Spunky can be really beneficial in a home that doesn't have somebody
03:18at home who can take care of them all the time.
03:21So for me he's been great.
03:22He comes everywhere with me.
03:23I have a bag.
03:24He's just comfortable and mellow enough to be able to take most places and be confident
03:29that he's going to behave well.
03:31My life has changed so much because of him.
03:34I would probably get stopped and asked what kind of breed he is, what his name is, probably
03:3910 or 20 times a day.
03:40When I'm driving with him down Sunset Boulevard, Spunky will have his head out the window and
03:44people will pull up next to us and ask what his name is, what kind of dog is that.
03:48I am just everywhere I go, people smile in my direction.
03:53Of course they're smiling at Spunky, but my life is just surrounded by smiles because
03:57of him.
03:59People often talk to me about rescuing Spunky and I actually think it is the other way around.
04:03I think Spunky rescued me.
