Kei the White Rhino is one the biggest animals at Australia Zoo weigh in in at close to two tonnes but despite his tough exterior he's a gentle giant. You can tell the difference between the black and White Rhino due to the shape of their lip. He love's rolling in his mud bath and having a scratch, this beauty regimen also helps protect him from the sun and mosquitoes. Rhinos have poor eyesight but good smell and hearing and they need to be on the lookout as they are endangered due to the demand for their horn in traditional medicine.

00:00This is our gorgeous white rhino, Kai.
00:10Although he may look really big and tough, he's actually as sweet as a puppy dog.
00:17Well, what Kai does is he's actually got a big mud bath in his enclosure.
00:22It's pretty cool.
00:23He gets a bit dirty.
00:25Sometimes when he has that mud all over him, he loves it if you can just pick it off and
00:29scratch.
00:30It just kind of feels like a massage.
00:32They have that mud on their back to help them as like a sunscreen and a mosquito repellent.
00:38They actually can't see really well.
00:40But Robert, what can they do?
00:42They have really, really good hearing.
00:44And what's funny about Kai is if you look just on his ears, he's got those little tufts
00:49of fur.
00:50Isn't that silly?
00:51We're not really sure why he has it.
00:53Maybe it's to keep the dust out of his ears.
00:56This is the white rhino, and they're different from their cousin, the black rhino, for a
01:01few different reasons.
01:02Firstly, these guys are grazers.
01:05So if you look at their mouth, they have that real rectangular shape and really big, squishy
01:11lips.
01:12That's because they eat things like grass.
01:15But if you compare them to their cousin, the black rhino, they have a more triangular shaped
01:20mouth, don't they?
01:21Yeah.
01:22It's really pointy.
01:23And do you know why they have that?
01:24That's because they eat different foods.
01:26It's true.
01:27So they eat more things like shrubs.
01:29Yeah.
01:30So rhinos can actually grow up to be two tons.
01:32They're really, really heavy.
01:34It's true.
01:35Now, the poor rhinos are in a lot of trouble.
01:38They're actually critically endangered because of that gorgeous horn.
01:43That horn is made out of keratin, which is the same as our fingernails.
01:48What people do is they'll kill the rhinos for that horn to turn it into traditional
01:53medicine.
01:54So the biggest thing to protect rhinos or any wildlife is to never, ever buy wildlife
02:00products.
02:01Kai is one of our biggest animals here at Australia Zoo.
02:05But we have lots more, both big and small.
02:08So make sure you tune in next time.
02:10Yeah.
02:11And remember to subscribe to the Pet Collective channel.
02:13See ya.
02:14Bye.
02:24Bye.
