00:00Shall we go have a look what's over here?
00:02Oops.
00:09Meet Pip, the common brushtail possum.
00:13Now, in the wild, they usually eat things like shrubs, don't they?
00:17Yeah, so they don't normally eat corn, but still, I think she likes it.
00:21She's about 14 now.
00:23Yeah, it's true, and this is about as big as they get.
00:25She's a very big girl, cos she loves her food.
00:28Pip actually came from Tasmania.
00:31The family had her as a pet, but what happened?
00:35Well, I think she got a little bit too hard to keep as a pet.
00:38It's true, so then they gave her to us
00:41so that she could live comfortably here at Australia Zoo,
00:44because possums really don't make very good pets.
00:47So this guy has actually got a really long, bushy tail.
00:51That's to help him keep balance.
00:54Now, our possums here in Australia
00:57are a lot different from the possums you find in the United States.
01:00They're called the Virginia O possums.
01:03Now, they're different for a few reasons.
01:05The Virginia O possums are quite a lot smaller
01:08and a lot lighter in complexion.
01:11Did you know that the Virginia O possum
01:14is the only marsupial in America?
01:17There's about nine species of possums here in Australia,
01:21but the common brushtail possums are the largest.
01:24They live in Tasmania.
01:26That's why they have this beautiful thick fur.
01:29To keep them warm. It's true.
01:31And also around the coastlines in mainland Australia.
01:34Yeah.
01:35If you love animals but can't visit Australia,
01:38make sure you tune in for the next episode.
01:41And remember to subscribe to the Pet Collective channel.
01:51.
