00:06Are safe in their new foster home
00:11Now the real work begins for Hope getting healthy and raising her family
00:18We're pulling for you girl
00:21I'm Sharon Osbourne and you're watching the litter
00:24The puppies are now two weeks old
00:30Hope and her boys are really settling into their new foster home at new leash on life
00:38It's quite the puppy paradise
00:41The facility spans 13 acres and includes kennels a variety of fenced and
00:48landscape dog parks a pool an
00:51Isolation trailer for dogs that need quarantine and plenty of fresh air and room to run
00:59Not to mention a loving attentive staff
01:09Since its inception new leash on life has rescued and placed over
01:145,000 dogs in permanent homes and they've helped stem the flow of unwanted pets by
01:19spaying and neutering
01:21thousands more
01:26This is the life a nice safe bungalow your own yard central air it sure beats a cold concrete shelter floor
01:38Now that she has a foster home hope can concentrate full-time on being a mum
01:44The little darlings will totally depend on her for the first few weeks
01:51So what really goes into raising pups
01:56First and foremost the pups need mum for food and plenty of it
02:02These little pitbulls are more like bottomless pitbulls
02:08Don't you guys ever get full and
02:10And at this age puppies need to eat every two hours
02:16Hope is still underweight, but is producing enough milk to feed her boys
02:21They will continue to nurse until they're about eight weeks old
02:26Now it's time for a cuddle
02:30It's awfully cute, but that's not why she does it
02:35She has to cuddle them
02:37She has to cuddle them their survival depends on it
02:47At this age puppies can't regulate their own body temperature, so their mum has to keep them warm
02:55And if they get too hot hope will place them on a cool spot on the floor
03:00Puppies this age can't potty on their own so mum needs to lick them in order to stimulate their bowels
03:06So they'll evacuate and by evacuate. I mean well, you know
03:14If you find this canine mothering behavior a bit revolting you'll love this next part a
03:21Protective new mama dog will also eat her puppies waste
03:25This is an instinct to destroy any smells that may otherwise attract potential predators
03:32At least hope cleans up after her dogs. That's more than I can say for some of my kids
03:40With lunch and potty break out of the way it's time to wash up
03:46And hope has the right tool for the job her tongue
03:50As we've seen a dog's tongue can travel to some unsavory places
03:55But hope's saliva is great for removing odors dirt and parasites from her puppies coat
04:04Lick lick lick
04:08Hope has quite a bit of responsibility lucky for her it all comes naturally
04:14Instincts are a great tool for the job
04:17Between hope and the people at new leash on life the puppies have everything they need
04:25Except names
04:27The pet collective launched a contest where the live cam viewers got to name the puppies
04:33Here's what they came up with Bruin
04:36Lenny
04:37Ralphie
04:39and
04:40Leeroy Sammy
04:43Munroe
04:44Great suggestions everyone
04:47Hope is doing a splendid job of mothering despite being well under her ideal weight
04:55It's hard to keep up when you're eating for seven
04:59But she'll get there. Thanks to the healthy diet provided by new leash on life
05:05Hope is a great mother
05:07But she'll get there. Thanks to the healthy diet provided by new leash on life
05:11Bon Appetit
05:18Meanwhile, let's watch the puppies try to tackle their next milestone walking
05:27It's not easy learning how to get around on those squishy little legs
05:32Puppies start walking about two to three weeks in age as they become stronger and more coordinated
05:38They'll get steadier on their paws
05:41By week four, they'll be walking pros
05:47How big will hopes boys get
05:52It depends
05:54No one knows who the father was and since each puppy can be from a different father
05:58These are most likely multiple mixed breeds
06:04Chances are they'll be around the same size as hope once they reach maturity
06:11It looks like Lenny is the current runt
06:16And roly-poly Ralphie is the biggest
06:19Often in the litter the runt gets more attention from the mum
06:23But anything can change as these puppies grow the runt can grow to be the biggest
06:28The biggest can become the runt a lot happens in these first weeks
06:36Don't grow up too quickly little puppies
06:39We've got a lot to cover and stop chewing on the camera. We don't cover chewing until episode six
06:45Keep being a great mum hope oops one more thing hopes belly rub
06:53Good girl, hope
06:57Next time on the litter
06:59The puppies are rushed to the vet for a case of puppy bogeys
07:04A puppy bogey is a dog's pet
