Tessa is a survivor. Even after suddenly going blind and being left at the shelter, she is slowly regaining her independence and love for life.

Tessa suddenly went blind. Her owners did not understand what was wrong with her, leaving her at the shelter shaking and frightened. Her sense of vertigo was so strong she couldn't stand or walk. The shelter put out a call for help and The Bill Foundation of Los Angeles, CA answered. Tessa was pulled from the shelter and taken in to a neurologist who diagnosed her with hydrocephalus or fluid on the brain. Tessa is responding positively to current treatment but may never regain her sight. She is becoming more mobile. Her sense of smell and hearing is compensating for her lack of sight. Tessa is getting her life back, thanks to Annie Hart of Bill Foundation. She now needs a home with a family who will love her for who she is today.

Special Thanks to Bill Foundation

00:30She was truly a shell of a dog, there wasn't, she wasn't there.
00:44We went to see an ophthalmologist.
00:47They discovered she had something called vertical nystagmus, so she was very dizzy.
00:52That's why she was unable to stand up and when she would stand it was, you know, she
00:56was bracing herself as though the world was shaking.
01:12We sought out the best neurologist in Southern California and discovered she had severe hydrocephalus.
01:19And hydrocephalus is fluid in the brain.
01:37We didn't know if we were hospicing or if she had a chance.
01:43And day three she suddenly responded to light and she smiled and she can't see per se all
01:53the way but she can see light and shadow.
02:08It was kind of magical because she all of a sudden for the first time wagged her tail
02:12like crazy, like, oh my gosh I can do this and I'm not going to fall over.
02:34Tessa is sunshine and butterflies and everything that's wonderful and pure in the world.
02:40She's so happy and so full of life.
02:47She has a forever home waiting for her out there and we just haven't found it yet.
02:52She has so much joy to bring somebody.
02:54I can't wait to find that person.
03:12She can survive suddenly going blind and suddenly being abandoned.
03:18That's the power of animals that animals have to teach us.
