Bronte was pulled from the shelter five years ago by New Leash on Life of Newhall, California. Bronte was in terrible condition having been hit by a car. Her leg was crushed and had to be amputated. NLOL took care of her and her injuries. Bronte recovered physically and emotionally. She was adopted soon after. For years, Bronte remained with the family until the couple divorced returning him to NLOL. Bronte doesn't let her past define her as she is still the same happy-go-lucky dog from five years ago.

Please share this story to get Bronte a happy home.

If you are interested in adopting Bronte go to http://www.nlol.org/

00:30When we rescued her, she only had three legs.
00:49She had been hit by a car and the vets weren't unable to save her leg.
00:57This was kind of new.
00:58As far as I know, none of us there had actually experienced a dog with an amputee leg.
01:02How do we properly care for this?
01:03What are we going to need to do?
01:04Is the dog going to be upset?
01:05Are they going to be depressed?
01:06Needless to say, it was traumatic.
01:18And we thought, you know, she found a great home and she's going to live happily ever
01:21after, but sometimes that's just not the case.
01:28When Bronte was returned to New Leash, it wasn't that much of a surprise because we
01:35had been getting a couple of phone calls from her doctor saying that, you know, it was just
01:39becoming too much for her.
01:41And then finally she called and said, well, I'm getting a divorce and I just can't take
01:46Bronte with me.
01:53The leg that Bronte is missing, thankfully, wasn't one of the front legs.
01:58She lost the back leg and, honestly, it's like she still has a leg.
02:03She can run and she can get away from us and she can chase squirrels down the driveway just
02:08faster than most dogs, so she'll get away from you if you let her.
02:13She has automatically learned how to compensate for this and she's faster than many dogs who
02:20have four legs.
02:21You can't catch her if she doesn't want you to.
02:30Her happy spirit, her happy, resilient, unsinkable nature carried her through.
02:35For people that are wondering what it's like to have a three-legged dog, if there's going
02:42to be any issues down the road, we haven't really seen any.
02:44She can go on hikes, she can go to the dog park and play ball.
02:48She's just a typical dog and she has no idea that anything's different.
02:53We would wish any dog, any creature, to not have to go through obstacles, but it just
02:58shows you that obstacles don't break them, don't destroy them, don't damage them.
03:02They enhance them.
03:03It can make it a little bit more difficult with her having three legs to find her home,
03:08but we know that there's someone out there, there's someone out there for every dog.
