Hey Guys! I'm doing some quick spring cleaning today, and I have a bunch of old tee shirts I want to throw out. BUT being green, I'm going to upcycle them into a dog toy for Fluffy!
Oh, come check me out on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/sedonadiy
00:00Oh, hey guys! Don't mind me, I'm just cleaning out my closet.
00:07What am I going to do with all these? Ninja?
00:14Captain Sedona will save the day!
00:19Yarrr, matey!
00:21Ahhhh, shirt monster!
00:27Oh, I can make these into a t-shirt yarn tutorial for Fluffy!
00:32But first, intro finger dance!
00:42Here's what you're going to need for the project.
00:44Some old t-shirts, a pair of scissors...
00:48That's it!
00:50Wait, that's really it?
00:52That's all!
00:53For shirt selection, you're going to want to keep a couple things in mind.
00:56One, use different colored shirts so it makes the braid nice and pretty and colorful and bright.
01:01Two, you don't want to use shirts with labels on them because the labels get all crunchy when you try to braid and it just doesn't turn out as well.
01:07To make the chew toy, take your plain t-shirt and just lay it down on a flat surface.
01:12Now, take your scissors and cut along the top of the seam of the bottom of the shirt and across the shirt right under the armpits.
01:20Done! Now you have a square that's easy to work with.
01:23Now, fold the closed end to the other closed end, leaving about one inch at the top.
01:29Then, taking your scissors, cut one inch strips all the way up past the folded fabric.
01:36Oh, Mittens, if you were a lion, this would be so much easier.
01:42Done! And once you're done cutting, it should look like a grass skirt.
01:46Or a beard.
01:48Now, open it up and you'll see a spine. Take the first bottom slit and cut it out.
01:56Now you can just cut from slit to slit.
02:00Now it should look like a lasso, so just cut the circle.
02:07Now you should have one long string, which really comes in handy if you ever decide to become a mummy.
02:13So now, foot by foot, just stretch it out so that the string curls under.
02:18Now that you have your yarn, cut it to about a yard and then tie them all together and start your Scooby-Doo technique.
02:27Separate it into four groups and you can put the knot in your foot.
02:33To make it easier and keep all the groups together, you can tie them into a loose knot at the top.
02:38Okay, let's start. And if you ever get lost, just look at the diagram.
02:43So find the opposites and cross them over.
02:47Then, take the other two sides and make sure you go over one and under the other.
02:56Now take the other side and go over and then under.
03:01When you pull it tight, it should make a square.
03:03When you pull it tight, it should make a square.
03:06And if you feel uncomfortable holding it in your feet or it's hard, you can always just use a clipboard.
03:15Now once you have about six inches left, untie your loose knots and tie a big knot to end it.
03:21Now just cut the excess off and voila! You made a dog chew toy out of the old t-shirt.
03:27What do you think, Fluffy?
03:29I guess cats like them too.
03:32Sedona, did you finish cleaning out your closet?
03:35Yes, Mom, I did.
03:38Well, guys, I gotta go finish cleaning out my closet.
03:41Wait, Ben, you want to help me?
03:43Um, sorry, I can't. I have to go feed my fish.
03:46Wait, wait, I have to tell them to like, comment, subscribe and post on my Facebook and tweet me at Sedona the Iowan.
