A 23-year-old home intruder, Taylor William Killingsworth, was shot dead when he and an accomplice invaded a townhouse in Gainesville, Florida Wednesday evening.

The incident happened at the Grove apartment complex, unit 21, at 6400 Southwest 20th Avenue just before 6 p.m.

“The residents said that two males came to the door, armed, and tried to rob them. One was white and one was black,” said Sergeant Becky Butscher. “The white male was shot and is deceased. The black male fled and stripped his clothes. We are tracking him, trying to locate him.”

One witness told The Gainesville Sun that he saw Killingsworth come “running out of the house with a package under his arm and fired twice. He was about 30 feet from me when he did that. He was jogging and then he turned back and shot.”

The other suspect, who fled the scene after removing all of his clothes is described as a black male, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with a lean build.

Butscher said the case is possibly drug-related. The investigation is ongoing.
