TALLADEGA, ALABAMA — A young boy from Alabama shot and wounded an intruder who threatened to kill him after robbing his house last week.

Chris Gaither, 11, was alone at his home with a dog in Talladega the morning of April 27 last week when a man broke into the house.

"When he was coming down the stairs, that's when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that," Gaither told WVTM-13.

The intruder was allegedly holding a hamper when he left the house. Gaither said he followed him to the yard and fired one warning shot into the air as intruder was trying to escape. Gaither then fired at the suspect, the last bullet reportedly hitting the man's leg as he was about to jump a fence.

"I shot through the hamper he was carrying," Gaither told WVTM-13 "It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby."

Some expressed criticism on on social media over the fact that Gaither had access to a gun when he was home alone, while others cheered his bravery.
