http://www.aquatarium.ca If you want to learn more about the science of marine biology, then you can dive deeper into learning at our Aquatic Discovery Centre. In our hands-on interactive classroom, you can explore in-depth science. For young explorers in the Thousand Islands who can’t get enough of biology, we offer one-of-a-kind science “immersions” in our Water Lab discovery centre, where instructors and specialists will guide you as you perform exciting experiments, study marine animals from the St. Lawrence River and even build your own underwater robot!
Our experienced, friendly educators lead a variety of weekend classes in both a more traditional “dry” classroom setting and a “wet” setting where participants can push up their sleeves for hands-on aquatic activities. You can get a close look at the invertebrates that live in the waters of the 1000 Islands, or put your learning into action at the water table, where you’ll do real experiments that illustrate the power of the St. Lawrence River.
What you may not know is that there are over 1.5 million unique underwater species that we know of, and many more yet to be discovered! Atlantic sturgeon, the largest fish in the St. Lawrence, have been known to live for up to 60 years, reach 4.5 metres in length, and weigh up to 360 kilograms. The river otter population of the St. Lawrence River is one of the most stable in North America, inhabiting almost all of the rivers' eco-regions.
If you are in search of Environmental Day Trips and Scientific School Trips in Ontario, entertaining and engaging activities for kids, or school trips in Ontario or New York, then you will want to explore the history, ecology and recreation of the St. Lawrence River Thousand Islands region. Located in Brockville, Ontario, at 6 Broad Street, K6V 4T7, on the waterfront, the Aquatarium is the 1000 Islands RiverQuest™’ showcase for all ages.
