Interviews from Caracas - The Francisco de Miranda Front

Today our host Cody Weddle interviews two members of the Francisco de Miranda Front -- Ramon Ramirez and Maricelly Rodríguez. The group was founded in 2003 by former Cuban President Fidel Castro and the late President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, a leader who has been a teacher and an example for the young people who work in the Front. The task of eradicating poverty and achieving social inequality in Venezuela is now being carried on by President Nicolas Maduro. Ramon and Maricelly remind us that extreme poverty rates have dropped while education inclusion rates have soared. Venezuelans now have a free health care system and can speak their minds. The Front works with people’s power groups, youth, women, indigenous groups, people with disabilities in social and education programs. They go out to the streets and explain to the youth why it is necessary to defend Venezuela against aggression. They view U.S. President Barack Obama’s recent statements as a pretext for a possible invasion and believe that it is important for Venezuelans to reject such intervention and continue on the path of peace with respect for human rights and international law. teleSUR
