Parents, if you think your teen is ready to date, it’s important to put some safeguards in place. We encourage you to:

- Get to know your teen’s friends and their parents and to exchange phone numbers with everyone.

- Make sure your teen always carries a charged cell phone.

- Keep your cell phone on whenever your teen is on a date.

- Identify someone your teen can call in an emergency if you can’t be reached.

- Create opportunities for your teen to talk honestly with you about his or her feelings.

- Remember, your teen is still a kid. Encourage after school activities, part time jobs, and volunteering—a busy teen feels less pressure to date before they’re really ready.
