'I'm going to carry on': Madonna fall closes Brits with a bang

Madonna literally closed the Brit Awards with a bang.

Known for causing a stir, the global superstar took an appropriately timed, but apparently unplanned, tumble down a set of stairs – seemingly when a dancer attempted to remove her cape during a dance routine.

The fall came as she was singing the lyrics ‘I let down my guard … I’m going to carry on’ from her single ‘Living For Love’.

Credit where credit’s due: the Queen of Pop picked herself straight back up and continued with her performance. She later released a statement saying she was ‘fine’, but her cape had been too tight to remove.

It was Madonna’s first performance at the Awards in 20 years. It’s as yet unclear if she’ll be gracing that particular stage again anytime soon.

One of the stars of the night

Another star to make a sensation on the night was was four-time Grammy Award winner Sam Smith. He won the Best Breakthrough Artist and the Global Success statues, in recognition of his album sales in the UK.
