Doctor Refuses to Treat Baby with Two Moms

Before the rejection, the couple, who "married" in Vermont in 2012, said they were excited that their child would be cared for by Dr Roi, who had been recommended by their midwife.

They met with her and she knew they were gay.

Dr Roi, who has been practicing pediatric medicine for 19 years, then reached out to the couple by writing them a letter of apology to explain why she had refused to care for Bay.

'After much prayer following your prenatal (visit), I felt that I would not be able to develop the personal patient doctor relationship that I normally do with my patients,' she explained in the note.

The letter did not mention anything about the couple being lesbians.

But she continued: 'Please know that I believe that God gives us free choice and I would never judge anyone based on what they do with that free choice. Again, I am very sorry for the hurt and angry feelings that were created by this. I hope that you can accept my apology.'
