Literary giant Russell Banks on freedom of speech

His works include "Affliction", which was made into a movie with Nick Nolte, "Continental Drift", "Lost Memory of Skin" and "Rule of the Bone". His protagonists are blue-collar workers, teen runaways, and a myriad of others. He is in France as his collection of short stories "A Permanent Member of the Family" has been translated into French.
