The man who is best known as the "inventor of instant replay" recently passed away. Tony Verna died in his Palm Beach residence on Sunday from leukemia at the age of 81.

Those who knew and loved him are grieving their loss but they can take comfort in knowing his legacy lives on. More than 50 years ago, Verna created the Instant Replay feature during the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia.

That moment in 1963 changed how viewers watched sports. The score was 21-7 in the Navy's favor and that's when the CBS director decided to utilize a tape machine to show fans a potentially game changing touchdown by an Army quarterback.

Following a series of commercials, Verna replayed the touchdown and announcer Lindsey Nelson told viewers across the nation "This is not live! Ladies and gentlemen, Army did not score again."
