According to an announcement from the restaurant chain Chick-fil-A, their payment system may have suffered a security breach resulting in sensitive customer information being used to commit fraud.

Reportedly, suspicious activity has been observed on customers' payment cards at some Chick-fil-A restaurants.

An investigation has been launched by law enforcement officials from the federal government along with payment industry contacts, and internet technology security firms.

Payment industry representatives identified the problem on December 19th, and contacted Chick-fil-A about the possible breach.

If it turns out that customers have been fraudulently charged, the bank that issued the card will be responsible for reimbursement, or the restaurant will cover it.

Chick-fil-A notes in a statement: “If our customers are impacted, we will arrange for free identity protection services, including credit monitoring.”

They still aren’t sure how many of their customers might be affected by the security issue, or if anyone has already fallen victim to credit card fraud or identity theft.

Further information will be released as the investigation continues.
