The museum is housed in its own space at Thrylorio village, 9.5 km from Komotini following the old highway to Sapes.

The Baskets exhibited come from the three national sections of Thrace (Greek, Bulgarian, and Turkish).

The Museum is the only one covering all three countries of the Balkan Peninsula, inhabited by numerous groups and compact gypsies (Roma).

The exhibits are gathered through an extensive - geographically and temporally – research on the field in areas of major Thrace.

Through the Museum it is attempted the rescue, study, promotion and support (moral and physical) of the ancient art of basketry.

Simultaneously, the study of the traditional culture of the Romans extends to other arts (such as the tinner, blacksmith, of psathopoiou of koskinopoiou of manufacturer combs, etc.), in order to create a Museum - panorama of Gypsy culture.

Moreover, to fully cover the history and character of basketry creations of two other basketry traditions are exhibited: a) people from the mountains of Rhodope, whose roots reach to the Byzantine period and b) the Greek refugees from the Black Sea, Eastern Romelia and Eastern Thrace.

Small collections of baskets are scattered to folk museums, but they are not specialized. It is a rarity at European level and even more due to its focus on gypsies.
