The church of St. George basilica located in the center of the second largest district of the Greek Christians of Komotini in the Ottoman period.
Around the church a few more of the mansions of the city have survived, like Tsanaklis house, just opposite the entrance of the Church, the mansion Mare and the home of former Mayor Bletsa Dimitriou.
In the courtyard of the church is located also the Thracian Museum of Education, a little old school building which now features exhibits of educational material from earlier times, and a rich library.
