Art critic Rosalind E. Krauss discusses the postmodern dilemma in which we see "an extraordinary conformity ... despite the seeming pluralism." She states that: "Somehow, reality has been swallowed up by a television tube [and] we are trapped in ... a world of shadows, a world of simulations, rather than a world of real things. ... Certain artists have dedicated their work to the problem of how to break through this wall." From Art of the Western World: In Our Time.
