Several weeks back, a viral video stirred fierce debate around the practice of catcalling.

This past Saturday, a man in San Francisco became a stabbing victim after attempting to put a stop to one such instance.

During the early morning hours, 31-year-old Ben Schwartz had been walking home with his girlfriend and another companion. Along the way, the group encountered a man who was catcalling Ben’s girlfriend.

According to a friend, they had passed the male two other times before and he had made the same type of remarks to the woman. Ben politely asked him to stop the catcalls.

The man reportedly followed the group. In Ben's words, “..We tried to just ignore it, just kind of walk away and make our way home, cross the street and try to take a different path. It turned violent very quickly, punches thrown.”

The catcaller stabbed Ben 9 times; in the back, neck, arms and even his face. He was rushed to the hospital for surgery and fortunately he survived the brutal attack.

A GoFundMe campaign was launched to pay for his medical expenses and it raised more than 19,000 dollars in one single day. The suspect has not yet been captured.
