Around 40 people have been arrested in several cities in northern Italy as authorities targeted different mafia cells.
Italian media sources said the investigation had involved phone intercepts as well as secret filming.
The police have also released unprecedented images of an initiation ritual which was filmed as part of an inquiry into what’s called the ‘Ndragnheta’ syndicate.
