Caught On Camera - Porcupine Uses Quills To Ward Off Lions

Footage was recently captured showing how a brave porcupine was able to ward off not one lion, but a group of them.

The quills of porcupines are natural defense mechanisms that help ward off predators, but you probably wouldn't think those pricks would be a match for a much larger animal, like a lion.

Footage was recently captured showing how a brave porcupine was able to ward off not one lion, but a group of them.

The prickly creature’s survival skills were certainly tested when a gathering of 17 presumably hungry lions circled around it.

While the lions sniffed it and got far too close for comfort, the porcupine maneuvered through the crowd and utilized the quills on its back to show the lions it wasn’t going down without a fight.

The lions inquisitively glanced and pawed at the spiky creature for awhile before deciding the porcupine wasn’t an easy meal.

Wildlife photographer Lucien Beaumont captured the scene inside Londolozi Game Reserve.

Beaumont noted, “This very lucky porcupine managed to survive. The lionesses..lost interest and began to move off. The cubs soon lost their bravery and backed off, leaving the porcupine to disappear into the night and live to see another day.”
