Maryland State Police along with federal officials are trying to find a suspect who allegedly stole more than $100,000 from ATM users.

Investigators suspect the man is using an ATM skimming device to obtain bank customers’ information. The skimmer records data from the magnetic strips on cards.

A camera that is mounted near the top of the ATM helped the suspect get the victims’ passwords. The man then uses that data to create fraudulent bank cards and withdraw funds from customers’ accounts.

Law enforcement officials say the man may be operating in a number of Maryland counties and even out of state. By the middle of October, 6 incidents were reported to police.

In September, a skimming device was discovered on a Frederick County ATM, but its likely that no sensitive information was revealed to the suspect, as the contraption was removed.

Investigators are looking at and sharing ATM surveillance photos to help identify and locate the male. A $10,000 reward has been put up by Sandy Spring Bank for information that leads to the arrest of the man.

A description notes he may be Hispanic and between the ages of 25 and 40.
