00:00:00There's a re-init for a missing person.
00:00:24A white male with something or other, had long hair and a beard. He was alone.
00:00:37License number is Davis & Soch. Class D David.
00:00:4490 or what was going on there?
00:00:47No, I just made...
00:00:55735 John, any other units? 10-50 to Channel 1 at 23-08.
00:01:04Okay, you've got no record found on these. Negative. And I'm not getting any MVD up on them. No record found.
00:01:11On March 4th, 1996, a missing persons report was filed with the Jackson County Police Department by a Ms. Judy Dixon.
00:01:20Ms. Dixon reported that her son, a Mr. Baron Dixon, had left a panic-stricken message on her answering machine,
00:01:27stating that Mr. Dixon would be leaving and never coming back.
00:01:31His vehicle and his belongings were found by the County Sheriff's Department.
00:01:41Mr. Dixon had arranged to meet with two friends at a designated campsite that the trio was familiar with.
00:01:50Mr. Dixon's vehicle was discovered about five miles south of that campsite.
00:01:55The two friends Mr. Dixon had arranged to meet were a Mr. Randy Kenneth Sloan and a Mr. Edward T. Tackett.
00:02:10So, right here is where it happened. We had the fire going here, and then it was that ridge right there that this shape,
00:02:23or like a light bubble thing, floated right on down this way.
00:02:31It's crazy.
00:02:33Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett had admitted to using hallucinogenics on the night in question.
00:02:39It was the biggest spaceship I had ever seen.
00:02:45Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett had outstanding warrants for their arrest.
00:02:50I had an unpaid speeding ticket.
00:02:54And I just had some problems with neighbors about some noises coming from my car.
00:02:59I just had some problems with neighbors about some noises coming from my garage. That's all.
00:03:09Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett were questioned and later booked into county jail for their outstanding warrants.
00:03:16Well, you know, it sounds insane. I'd call me insane too if I was me.
00:03:21But it was like a light, or like a vessel. And it just floated real graceful like down there.
00:03:29No jerking at all.
00:03:31No, and it was no lights.
00:03:33And there weren't no lights. And like, it was about this big.
00:03:41Investigating officers described the witnesses as excitable and incoherent.
00:03:47And when I put, it was about this big. When I put my hand up, it was about, yeah, that big.
00:03:54How, how close was it?
00:03:57If I'd have had a rock, I could have hit it. Yeah. And then it just, one second, it was gone.
00:04:06Mr. Dixon's vehicle was subsequently impounded and his belongings were entrusted to his mother, Mrs. Judy Dixon.
00:04:14Barron is my only child. Barron was always fascinated with spaceships.
00:04:20He loved spaceships, ever since he was a little baby.
00:04:25I thought he'd be a football player when he grew up.
00:04:28But he never got interested in sports at all.
00:04:32His only interest was outer space things.
00:04:44That was, what's a year?
00:04:47I think about a year. I think he worked here for about a year.
00:04:51I hated that guy. I hated that guy.
00:04:54Yeah, we all hated him. I hated that guy.
00:04:56All he did was talk about fucking spaceships.
00:04:58All he did was talk about spaceships.
00:05:00All the fucking time.
00:05:02He got a little sick of hearing that all the time.
00:05:04Remember that one thing we used to say? Yeah, he used to say, he used to go,
00:05:06Spaceships are gonna take me away!
00:05:08We'd all fucking cry.
00:05:10Oh man, he was a shady pussy.
00:05:12I fucking hated him too.
00:05:14God, he was an idiot.
00:05:16He just didn't fit in.
00:05:20His only friends were Ed and Randy.
00:05:24And I don't think they were a very good influence on him.
00:05:28Did you take hallucinogenics on the night that Barron disappeared?
00:05:34I took four hits of acid.
00:05:37Well, I had 12 originally.
00:05:40But I took one of Ed's, so maybe I had five hits.
00:05:44And I had some of Barron's too.
00:05:46So that was probably...
00:05:48So Ed probably had seven or eight.
00:05:53I tried to keep Barron away from him.
00:05:56We were pretty fucked up, because...
00:06:00We took all of Barron's acid when he didn't show up.
00:06:04Yeah, we'd been waiting around the fire pit for him.
00:06:08He didn't show up.
00:06:10But he had called me at 5 p.m.
00:06:13And he had told me that that was the night.
00:06:17He knew they were coming.
00:06:19Yeah, he knew it.
00:06:21Because he'd been talking about aliens all his life.
00:06:23He said they were coming.
00:06:25But he never said that they were coming that night.
00:06:28And he was serious.
00:06:30He never said that before.
00:06:31In all the 20 years I knew him,
00:06:34he never had any false alarms or anything.
00:06:37No.
00:06:39That was the night.
00:06:41He knew it.
00:06:43The two witnesses claim that while on their hallucinogenic experience,
00:06:48they did not see a spaceship.
00:06:51But what they did see, and I quote,
00:06:54is a space-traveling vessel.
00:06:57What?
00:06:59Do you...
00:07:01Do the police feel that because you took hallucinogens
00:07:05that maybe you hallucinated the spacecraft?
00:07:08That you didn't see a spacecraft?
00:07:10I might have been fucked up, but I know when I see a spaceship.
00:07:14I told them it wasn't a spaceship.
00:07:17It was a space vessel.
00:07:21I suspected that they were trying to get Barron
00:07:25to do something with drugs the same as they were.
00:07:32See, what I was saying before was about
00:07:36how the scope you can shoot for a mile away, but with this...
00:07:40When you're shooting them close, like this we are,
00:07:43you shoot underneath the scope with the...
00:07:46That's a good setup.
00:07:48But if he was a mile away, I'd just look in the scope,
00:07:52and then I could hit him.
00:07:54Well, okay. I'm gonna shoot the dog in the face.
00:07:57Make that a hundred Dalmatians.
00:08:04When you're shooting at him, you should shoot for him like it's real,
00:08:08like you should shoot him in the heart, or in the face,
00:08:12or in the belly, or in the groin.
00:08:16You could shoot him in the neck.
00:08:19Neck shot's pretty good, yeah.
00:08:21The neck shot will always take him out.
00:08:23So I'm gonna probably shoot this one in the neck.
00:08:28Or I'll try to pop one of his eyes off.
00:08:36There goes that pile of cow shit.
00:08:42I'm gonna shoot them dogs that are fucking.

00:11:51This is some of the artwork Baron did as a boy.
00:11:55His teachers gave him busy work so that to keep his mind occupied, he was just too much for a lot of his teachers.
00:12:22Oh yes, he also had a habit of keeping his hands in the front of his pants.
00:12:27Like, down his pants. A lot.
00:12:30I'd pull him aside and I'd say,
00:12:32Baron, you've got to keep your hands out of your pants.
00:12:35Well, he'd take them out and he would never give me any trouble.
00:12:39But two minutes later, he'd have his hands right back down his pants.
00:12:43I couldn't get him to stop.
00:12:45And it was just one more thing, you know, for the kids to pick on him for.
00:12:51No!
00:12:54He didn't finish high school.
00:12:56The kids were picking on him too much and he got tired of it.
00:13:01Baron wet his pants a couple of times during class and that was hard for the kids to accept.
00:13:06It seemed to compound his problems a lot.
00:13:10One time in high school, Baron read a paper about how he wished that aliens would come for him right in the middle of class
00:13:17so he wouldn't have to go to school or work or do anything he didn't want to do.
00:13:24But the teachers thought he was just nuts.
00:13:29I'm Dr. Matthews. At one time I was a psychiatrist for the Jackson County Public School System.
00:13:35Baron Dixon was referred to me by Mrs. Bailey, an English teacher at the time.
00:13:43Baron had written a paper in which he wished that aliens would come and remove him from the classroom
00:13:50so that he could prove to his peers that the stories he had told them in the past were true.
00:13:58I began meeting with Baron twice a week.
00:14:03And we talked a great deal about aliens and his wish to disappear.
00:14:09Baron had convinced himself that one day, a date he was not certain of,
00:14:15he would be picked up by a traveling spacecraft and taken to another planet.
00:14:21On this planet, he would be what he referred to as the captain of the workers or the laborers of that planet.
00:14:30A rather common fantasy, actually.
00:14:34Did he ever talk to you about taking other people to another planet as well?
00:14:40I'm not at liberty to talk to you about anything that his mother did not already make public
00:14:46by publishing his now famous summer vacation report.
00:14:51The school psychiatrist told me that Baron needed a lot of attention.
00:14:58He didn't trust the real world because of all the lies his father had told him.
00:15:04His father was a traveling salesman.
00:15:08See, Baron had caught his father in a motel room with another woman.
00:15:14And it wasn't his mom.
00:15:16It wasn't his mom.
00:15:18And it was shortly after that, he went down to find out who his real parents were.
00:15:25So he went down to the adoption agency and tried to look up the records and everything.
00:15:31And they couldn't find any records on him.
00:15:34And according to their offices, Baron never ever even really existed.
00:15:41So no one knows where Baron came from?
00:15:44Nobody.
00:15:48It is true that Baron was adopted.
00:15:53And it's true that the agency didn't have any record of his existence.
00:15:58We tried to have a baby, but Baron's dad's sperm was crooked.
00:16:06Its tail was bent, and it would just swim in circles.
00:16:11It would never go to the egg.
00:16:24Well, he'd gone down to that motel because his dad was traveling, you know, sales.
00:16:30Baron didn't get to see his father very much.
00:16:34Well, and the thing was that his dad, it was a surprise visit,
00:16:38and his dad didn't know that he was coming down there.
00:16:41Baron had just gotten his driver's license,
00:16:45and he decided to drive up to the city to surprise his dad.
00:16:49And Baron just walks in the room, and there was his dad,
00:16:52and there was this naked woman bouncing around in the hotel bed.
00:16:56And it wasn't his mom.
00:16:58And it really wasn't his mom.
00:17:01He told Baron that the woman in the room had locked herself out of her room,
00:17:06and he was just letting her use his.
00:17:09All right, I got the sound rolling.
00:17:11You got it?
00:17:12You got everything else rolling?
00:17:13Start rolling?
00:17:14Yeah, yeah, you got it rolling.
00:17:17We're outside with everybody.
00:17:19Okay, good.
00:17:32I'm off dixing, right?
00:17:34Yeah.
00:17:35You found a place, huh?
00:17:36Yeah, we found it.
00:17:37I'm Brian Flackard.
00:17:39I'm the production manager.
00:17:40How are you doing?
00:17:41This is Susie Falk.
00:17:42She's the production assistant.
00:17:43Hi, nice to meet you.
00:17:45Brian Ferguson on sound.
00:17:47He's our sound man.
00:17:48Behind the camera is Jeff Cochran.
00:17:50Hey, how you doing?
00:17:51Good to meet you.
00:17:52Here, let me get this water off.
00:17:53Okay.
00:17:54I'm just hosing the dog down.
00:17:55Oh, that's good.
00:17:57Anybody want to shut the water off?
00:18:04You found a place, huh?
00:18:05We found it, and it's nice to meet you.
00:18:08Very nice to meet you.
00:18:09Well, where do you want to do this?
00:18:11We can do it inside, out here, probably inside.
00:18:15How about in the kitchen?
00:18:16Keep it cool.
00:18:17Yeah, okay.
00:18:18Come on in.
00:18:22All right, you kids behave.
00:18:23Dad's getting an interview today.
00:18:30Go ahead and tell me your name.
00:18:32Yeah, my name is Daniel Edgar Dixon,
00:18:35but nobody calls me that.
00:18:37They call me Muff.
00:18:38Muff?
00:18:39Yeah, Muff.
00:18:40Muff, M-U-F-F.
00:18:42I'm Barron's dad.
00:18:45Barron was very upset when he found out
00:18:48that his father had been unfaithful to me.
00:18:52He had very little to do with his father after that.
00:18:56Well, I'm sure you've been told about Barron's imagination.
00:18:59The boy gets a thought in his mind.
00:19:01There's no change in it.
00:19:03I was up in Kingman, Arizona,
00:19:05in a hotel room on a road trip.
00:19:09Barron surprised me one day by knocking on the door.
00:19:12I let him in, and just as he came in,
00:19:15a lady come walking out of the shower.
00:19:18She lived a couple rooms down,
00:19:21and the shower wasn't working,
00:19:22so me being a nice guy,
00:19:24I said, come on and take a shower here.
00:19:28Well, Barron took one look at her and one look at me,
00:19:32and I don't know what he was thinking.
00:19:35Barron couldn't believe his father lied to him like that,
00:19:40and he asked me,
00:19:42what else had his father been lying to him about?
00:19:47Yeah, I remember I used to tell Barron stories
00:19:50about how Japanese cars are made,
00:19:52what the moon is made of,
00:19:54who lives on a big house on the hill,
00:19:57and that boy was never short of questions.
00:20:00He wanted to know about everything and everybody.
00:20:05He was a smart kid.
00:20:07I never had to explain things to him more than once,
00:20:10and many things he seemed to already know.
00:20:13Yeah, I loved Barron a lot.
00:20:16He was my boy.
00:20:18Yeah, we did quite a bit together.
00:20:21I wish we could have done more,
00:20:23but I think he was a mama's boy.
00:20:27Yeah, bitch!
00:20:29Fuckin' stank-ass hoe!
00:20:32He was a big fuckin' liar.
00:20:34Always making shit up.
00:20:36Always lying.
00:20:37Always getting shit out of his ass.
00:20:39It didn't even matter.
00:20:40He brought him these paintings.
00:20:42I remember that time he had the paintings,
00:20:44he told me about those paintings,
00:20:46because he said one day, I'm gonna quit.
00:20:48He said, I'm coming to work, I'm gonna quit
00:20:50trying to make my paintings.
00:20:52What did he say?
00:20:54He's gonna quit and paint these paintings of spaceships
00:20:57because he has this art dealer gallery guy
00:20:59that's gonna sell these paintings of spaceships.
00:21:01He brought these pictures in.
00:21:02Of these fuckin' pictures that he did.
00:21:04They were fuckin' stupid.
00:21:05It looked like a fuckin' retard did them.
00:21:08Hello, I'm Richard Stoneman.
00:21:10I'm Barron Dixon's art dealer.
00:21:14Barron came into my gallery in 1992.
00:21:18He had six paintings.
00:21:21They were very simple,
00:21:23very childlike paintings of spaceships.
00:21:26They were done in very bright colors,
00:21:28very playful.
00:21:29These three were on loan from clients.
00:21:32As you can see,
00:21:34they're very fun, playful paintings.
00:21:37Childlike, very childlike.
00:21:39One might even say disturbingly childlike.
00:21:52Hi, I'm Rasta Sinevi.
00:21:54This is my home.
00:21:56As you see, I'm a collector of modern art.
00:22:22This piece is TIA,
00:22:25that's Trans Interdimensional Air Wave Service.
00:22:29They started out as Trans International Airlines,
00:22:32but through the technology,
00:22:35managed to come out with this
00:22:37wonderful spaceship-type lamp.
00:22:40It actually goes, it's interdimensional.
00:22:42It travels.
00:22:43You see, you charge it up like that,
00:22:45and when you get enough of a charge,
00:22:47it takes off.
00:22:50This is my spaceship to honor that piece.
00:22:54It's called We Come in Peace.
00:22:56And of course, when the aliens do come,
00:22:58you just know they're not going to come in peace.
00:23:00They're going to come loaded with guns and weapons,
00:23:02and they're going to annihilate us all.
00:23:04But such is life.
00:23:06I liked the paintings,
00:23:08and I felt good about them.
00:23:11I told him I would show his paintings in my gallery.
00:23:19The gallery, Richard Stoneman,
00:23:22of the Richard Stoneman Gallery,
00:23:24he was selling me a line of crap
00:23:26when he sold me the piece.
00:23:28I saw it, I fell in love with it.
00:23:30It's so modern,
00:23:33it's like a throwback to the modern art of the 60s.
00:23:37You know, it's super serious,
00:23:40hoity-toity-ness, you know?
00:23:42I had to have it.
00:23:44It was hilarious.
00:23:46My friends all love it.
00:23:48I go to parties, and people come,
00:23:50and they gather around the painting,
00:23:52and they ignore me.
00:23:54They ignored everything else in the room,
00:23:56and believe me, I have some lovely things here.
00:23:58People are just drawn to this painting.
00:24:00It's magical.
00:24:02I feel blessed to have had the wisdom to acquire it.
00:24:06That's what primarily it does for me.
00:24:08It moves me.
00:24:10It makes me giggle.
00:24:12I sit, I admire it.
00:24:14The little puppy flying up to his mommy or daddy
00:24:16is up there, it's hard to tell.
00:24:18I guess it's a sexless being.
00:24:26I did not see Baron for about a year
00:24:30after he brought in the spaceship paintings.
00:24:34When he did come back,
00:24:36he brought in these rather large paintings
00:24:40that were so disturbing and violent
00:24:44that I was tempted to call the police.
00:24:47They were the most gruesome paintings I had ever seen.
00:25:02This is my bedroom,
00:25:04and this is where I live.
00:25:15But Baron gave me this painting
00:25:19because a lot of them he couldn't sell.
00:25:23But I like this one the best
00:25:27because I don't know,
00:25:31I just like to look at it and think about where I am in life
00:25:35and how big the world is and how big the galaxy is.
00:25:41How big the world is and how big the galaxy is
00:25:45and how there's so many different kinds of people
00:25:48and different kinds of plants.
00:25:51I like to think what people on other planets might be like
00:25:54because, see, we only know a little bit
00:25:58about the planets that surround us,
00:26:00but there's millions of planets
00:26:04and there's millions of stars.
00:26:07And...
00:26:11I just like to look at it
00:26:13and think about what people on other planets might be like.
00:26:22I like things because they speak to me.
00:26:25They tug on my heart or something,
00:26:28and I just have to have them.
00:26:30That's how I acquired that lovely painting over there.
00:26:33I just had to have it. It was hilarious.
00:26:36This little fella in a bubble
00:26:38and this dog flying up to him.
00:26:40I mean, that's great.
00:26:42You would expect a dog to have a bubble on his head, and he's not,
00:26:45and that means he's truly an alien dog.
00:26:47I kind of have an alien dog myself, so I know about that.
00:26:53Baron requires a great deal of attention,
00:26:56and one way people get attention is by running away
00:26:59or staging their disappearance.
00:27:02Baron was able to disappear
00:27:05and validate his entire life
00:27:08and get the attention that he needs.
00:27:11He got his name in the paper,
00:27:13his picture in the news,
00:27:15a documentary.
00:27:17This is the journey.
00:27:19This one over here is the adventure.
00:27:23And this last one is the day the aliens came
00:27:26and took me to another planet.
00:27:32This is the journey.
00:27:48Baron was pretty upset
00:27:50when he couldn't make a living as an artist.
00:27:55He didn't like work.
00:27:57It was too much like school.
00:27:59People kept picking on him.
00:28:01Cherry boy had a red face,
00:28:03big guy with a red face and a big brow.
00:28:05He was lazy.
00:28:06You couldn't even get him to do a fucking thing around here.
00:28:08His little face didn't believe you.
00:28:10He used to call him E.T.
00:28:11He used to call him E.T., remember?
00:28:13Hey, E.T.
00:28:15E.T. phone home, motherfucker.
00:28:16I go, where's your fucking spaceship?
00:28:18Hey, bitch boy, where's your spaceship?
00:28:20This is Baron's dog.
00:28:23Her name is Bobo.
00:28:25Baron got her when he was, oh, 28, 29,
00:28:30maybe 30.
00:28:32She was a little tiny thing,
00:28:35no bigger than a shoe.
00:28:40He was fucking dank.
00:28:41He was the king of the homeless, red-faced,
00:28:44big-throated, stinky-fished-looking spaceship.
00:28:47She had to work on the planet all the time.
00:28:50Baron used to get down and hug her,
00:28:53and he'd say,
00:28:54you're the only friend I've got, aren't you, Bobo?
00:28:57And she'd lick his face.
00:29:03Remember that fish we brought?
00:29:04We got that big fish, this big.
00:29:06It was a big-ass, a big sea bass.
00:29:09It was pretty big.
00:29:10Well, it was like that.
00:29:12I used to take that fish,
00:29:14and I'd just take that fish
00:29:15and slap him right on top of the head, man.
00:29:16He didn't care. He didn't care.
00:29:18He had juices in his hair and everything.
00:29:20He didn't care.
00:29:22Bobo gets up with me in the morning,
00:29:25and then I give her breakfast
00:29:27and then let her out,
00:29:29and she goes out to the end of the driveway
00:29:32and lays there all day looking up at the sky.
00:29:36It's as though she's waiting for Baron
00:29:39to come back home.
00:29:56The End
00:30:17What I don't get is that dog of his,
00:30:19every day it sits at the end of the driveway,
00:30:22stares up at the sky all day long, every day,
00:30:26and it does it every day.
00:30:28Weird. That is creepy.
00:30:48Tell me your name and your relationship to Baron.
00:30:51My name is Kathy Bell.
00:30:54You know, people tease me a lot about my name.
00:30:57Oh, okay. What relationship?
00:31:00Oh, yeah. My name is Kathy Bell,
00:31:02and I'm Baron Dixon's ex-girlfriend.
00:31:04Oh, okay. How did the two of you meet?
00:31:07We met at a Dead show when I was 21.
00:31:09No, I was 22.
00:31:11At a Grateful Dead concert we met when I was 22.
00:31:13And how old was Baron?
00:31:15He was 38.
00:31:16Oh, wow.
00:31:17Yeah. Well, my parents didn't like that a lot either,
00:31:20but, you know, he was a lot of fun,
00:31:22and he told me these weird stories, but it was a blast.
00:31:25He told me stories about other planets
00:31:28and people on the other planets,
00:31:31and, I don't know, I would just totally get sucked up
00:31:34into his stories about secret societies
00:31:37and how there is a secret society
00:31:40that's going to be shipping people from this planet
00:31:43to another planet, a new planet that they have,
00:31:46and it's a better planet, it's cleaner,
00:31:48there's no pollution, it's a better planet.
00:31:52And Baron said that he was going to be in charge
00:31:55of a group of workers at the new planet
00:31:58and that they were going to be building this thing
00:32:01that's going to be connected to the Washington Monument
00:32:04and some church in Rome or something, I don't know.
00:32:06I mean, I would believe it, but...
00:32:09I don't know if I really believed it
00:32:11or if it was just fun believing it,
00:32:13but it was, I don't know, he was a blast.
00:32:16It was like a game. It was fun.
00:32:19Oh, and then we had this great spaceship
00:32:22that he made in his backyard,
00:32:24and he made it out of cardboard and one-by-twos,
00:32:27and we'd mess around in that all night long
00:32:30and camp, look at the stars,
00:32:32and it was just like a clubhouse,
00:32:34and we'd sit around eating Twinkies
00:32:36and drinking wine coolers all night.
00:32:38It was great. It was just like a clubhouse.
00:32:41This is the spaceship Kathy and Baron built.
00:32:44He used to do a lot of them as a kid.
00:32:47They have refrigerator boxes.
00:32:50I'll open that for you.
00:32:57You can feel free to look inside.
00:33:00Let me get the lights.
00:33:04You can feel free to look inside.
00:33:07Let me get the lights.
00:33:33It was peaceful.
00:33:36It was peaceful.
00:33:39And it was like I could see through it.
00:33:42It was like I could see through it.
00:33:45It was a light.
00:33:48But I don't think I could.
00:33:51It was like a light in it or around it.
00:33:54It was like a beautiful angel.
00:33:57It was like a beautiful angel.
00:34:00It was like a beautiful angel.
00:34:03It was heavenly.
00:34:10We were freaking out for like two hours.
00:34:13I mean, a fucking spaceship.
00:34:15Where's Baron?
00:34:17We kept yelling, where's Baron?
00:34:19It was his own.
00:34:21It should have been Baron's day.
00:34:23He'd been talking about it forever.
00:34:25Baron's late for his own abduction.
00:34:29We didn't know where he was or anything.
00:34:32We were just so freaked out.
00:34:34Then we found out.
00:34:37We never got to say goodbye.
00:34:39We found out he's gone.
00:34:42He never even got to say goodbye to us.
00:34:45No one did.
00:34:46His mom.
00:34:47Kathy.
00:34:48He told Kathy a bunch of stuff.
00:34:51He never said goodbye to his mom.
00:34:54Just a message on his mom's answering machine.
00:34:57He really took good care of his mom.
00:35:27He really took good care of his mom.
00:35:57He really took good care of his mom.
00:36:27He really took good care of his mom.
00:36:30He really took good care of his mom.
00:36:33he?
00:36:56Hello.
00:36:57You've reached Judy Dixon.
00:36:59Please leave your name and number
00:37:01and I will call you right back.
00:37:03Beep. Beep. Beep.
00:37:07Mom! Mom!
00:37:09Pick up the phone!
00:37:11Oh, please be there, Mom!
00:37:13Oh, jeez! Tonight's the night, Mom!
00:37:15Tonight's the night!
00:37:17They talked to me! Tonight's the night!
00:37:19Jeez!
00:37:21I don't know, Mom.
00:37:23I'm kind of scared.
00:37:25They said I'm never coming back.
00:37:27I'm not...
00:37:29I'm not gonna get to see you!
00:37:31Oh, jeez, Mom.
00:37:33I wish I could be there.
00:37:35I wish I could give you a big hug
00:37:37goodbye.
00:37:39Oh, jeez.
00:37:41This is not how I thought it was gonna be!
00:37:43Oh, Mom.
00:37:47I love... I love you, Mom.
00:37:49I'm sorry
00:37:51for all the trouble I caused
00:37:53you growing up.
00:37:55I love you, Mom.
00:37:57Goodbye.
00:38:01I'm sorry.
00:38:03I'm sorry.
00:38:05I'm sorry.
00:38:07I loved Barron so much.
00:38:09I don't know
00:38:11what to do.
00:38:13I don't know
00:38:15what to do.
00:38:17I'm so
00:38:19lonely.
00:38:27I'm so lonely.
00:38:29I'm so lonely.
00:38:31I'm so lonely.
00:38:33I'm so lonely.
00:38:35I'm so lonely.
00:38:39He called me a lot after we broke up.
00:38:43He didn't want to break up,
00:38:45but it was too hard
00:38:47to go out with him.
00:38:49He did not know when to stop.
00:38:51He didn't know how to act in public.
00:38:53He would talk about
00:38:55UFOs and aliens
00:38:57to my parents.
00:38:59They didn't even like him to begin with,
00:39:01so you can imagine.
00:39:03And my sister hated him.
00:39:05She did not like him at all.
00:39:07Barron was so creepy.
00:39:09I mean,
00:39:11he was a full-grown guy, and he lived with his mother.
00:39:13I don't know what my sister
00:39:15saw in him. He was big
00:39:17and hairy and ugly.
00:39:19And he believed in aliens.
00:39:21He was just stupid.
00:39:23Barron was a lot of fun.
00:39:25I mean, he liked nature,
00:39:27and we'd go camping, and
00:39:29we had these great things
00:39:31called pods, and we'd camp out in them.
00:39:33Pods? No, pods.
00:39:35P-O-D-S.
00:39:37Pods. There were these big tents
00:39:39that Barron made. They were so great.
00:39:41We made them out of parachutes.
00:39:43And we'd camp in them at night,
00:39:45and look at the stars and the constellations.
00:39:47He knew everything about the stars
00:39:49and the constellations. It was amazing.
00:39:51He knew everything.
00:39:53And we'd dream.
00:39:55We'd dream about
00:39:57other planets and what our
00:39:59dream planet would be like.
00:40:01And we wished that there was a place
00:40:03where everybody was nice and
00:40:05everyone was in love
00:40:07and everyone had a mom
00:40:09and a dad.
00:40:11And, I don't know.
00:40:13We'd just dream.
00:40:21Well, uh,
00:40:23I am Heather Westfall,
00:40:25and Kathy used to be
00:40:27one of my best friends.
00:40:29Well, she began
00:40:31dressing really bad.
00:40:33She started dressing like a hippie.
00:40:35Then she's going to
00:40:37Grateful Dead concerts,
00:40:39and the next thing you know,
00:40:41she is totally in love
00:40:43with Barron.
00:40:45Tell me about
00:40:47the first time you met
00:40:49Barron.
00:40:51I think the first time I met Barron
00:40:53was at my New Year's Eve party.
00:40:55Kathy had invited him.
00:40:57He comes strolling in,
00:40:59and he's wearing this
00:41:01really tacky sweater
00:41:03that was far too tight for him.
00:41:05And he has on these tight,
00:41:07pleated dress slacks.
00:41:09And he absolutely
00:41:11creeped everyone out, because he's
00:41:13standing in the corner, and
00:41:15he's not blinking his eyes.
00:41:17He's just staring at everyone
00:41:19like this.
00:41:21I don't know.
00:41:23It was absolutely creepy.
00:41:25And he'd always been
00:41:27telling me about this guy
00:41:29shooting off rockets and such.
00:41:31I went out to
00:41:33Superstition Mountains.
00:41:35I remember this.
00:41:37And the very first time I saw Barron,
00:41:39he was dressed like some kind of
00:41:41futuristic astronaut.
00:41:43And he had some voice changer
00:41:45I am a robot.
00:41:47I am a robot.
00:41:49I make Japanese cars.
00:41:51Like that.
00:41:53It was funny.
00:41:55And he gave me this camera,
00:41:57and he goes, you know, take a picture
00:41:59of this, and take a picture of that,
00:42:01and whatever.
00:42:03And he went and made a whole movie out of it.
00:42:05And he called it The Launch.
00:42:07The Super Launch.
00:42:09The Super Launch.
00:42:11The Super Launch.

00:44:25He was just weird.
00:44:27Well, none of my
00:44:29friends liked him.
00:44:31So it was mostly just Barron and I.
00:44:33But,
00:44:35sometimes we'd hang out with Randy.
00:44:37We won't use
00:44:39everything.
00:44:41We just keep it running.
00:44:43Yeah, but,

00:44:49Whoa!

00:45:59It's just something we do for fun.
00:46:06I want that bitch up.
00:46:09Go, go baby, go.
00:46:11Burn her up, baby.
00:46:13That's a boy, that's a boy.
00:46:22Well, the night that he disappeared, he called me.
00:46:25He did call me.
00:46:28He told me that he was going to go to the new planet that he was talking about.
00:46:33And he said that he wasn't coming back.
00:46:44I could hear that he was scared.
00:46:47He was really scared.
00:46:49I'm afraid that he's in hiding somewhere, stalking my sister.
00:46:54And one night, he's going to come out of hiding and do something awful to her.
00:46:58I mean, he used to call me all the time.
00:47:02He doesn't call me anymore at all.
00:47:04Not even, I don't know, where is he?
00:47:07I mean, I'm not saying he used to stalk me or anything,
00:47:10but I would see him everywhere I went, every single day.
00:47:16I talked to him on the phone every day.
00:47:19And now he's nowhere.
00:47:21I was right here.
00:47:23I came out, saw Baron cross the street, donut shop, bag of donuts in his hand.
00:47:29And I yelled out, hey, Baron.
00:47:31I thought you was in outer space, you old son of a bitch.
00:47:38You can't be in outer space and be over there eating donuts at the same time.
00:47:44I don't care who you are.
00:47:47Dammit, James.
00:47:49He wouldn't know his head from a hole in the ground.
00:47:53My name is Emmett James.
00:47:56I've known Baron ever since he was a little grasshopper.
00:48:00I knew Baron when he was wearing diapers, like a little baby.
00:48:07Baron had a hard time making friends.
00:48:11I think the only friend he ever had was what he had in his imagination.
00:48:17Well, Baron was a troublemaker ever since he was little.
00:48:22Young whippersnapper, his mind was gone.
00:48:26You know, all the people that knew Baron, they thought he was crazy.
00:48:31They just didn't know.
00:48:40My name is Dean McDermott.
00:48:43I'm the president and chairperson of the IRO.
00:48:48That's the UFO Information Retrieval Organization.
00:48:52The IRO is a non-profit organization that is involved in fundraising as well as lobbying
00:49:00in order to try and establish a place where alien forces can land their spacecrafts without any fear of danger.
00:49:11What we have here is the plan that I've come up with to establish a space landing area in Scottsdale, Arizona.
00:49:24This is actually like a large parking lot, but it has lights for landing at night.
00:49:32It also will have some bleachers and a modest dwelling
00:49:37wherein we will have restrooms, telephones, and of course, snack machines.
00:49:43Sort of like a highway rest area.
00:49:48Let me turn this on and give you the effect.
00:49:57Hold on just one second.
00:50:03Is it on yet?
00:50:06Uh, no.
00:50:08Hmm.
00:50:10Okay, hold on just one more second.
00:50:13Let me try this over here.
00:50:16Is it on yet?
00:50:17Uh, no.
00:50:18How about now?
00:50:19Now.
00:50:20Is it on yet?
00:50:22Uh, nope.
00:50:23Hmm.
00:50:24Oh, oh yeah. Yeah, it's on.
00:50:26Oh. Good.
00:50:28Ah, there.
00:50:31As you can see, the lights.
00:50:33Okay, um, anyway, this area is set up also, as you can see, with a large antenna.
00:50:44And this can send out a radio signal both in Morse code and in English which says,
00:50:49Welcome to our planet.
00:50:51Please stop and introduce yourself.
00:50:54My name is Dean McDermott.
00:50:56This place is safe for landing.
00:50:59And this message, of course, repeats endlessly.
00:51:06Do you feel that Baron was taken away by aliens?
00:51:11No, I do not.
00:51:13Why don't you believe that?
00:51:15Because they, they being aliens, like to work with humans who are cooperative and peaceful.
00:51:22And Baron, Baron was just stubborn and rude.
00:51:29I don't know.
00:51:47Tell us your name and what it is you do.
00:51:50My name is Nate Lund.
00:51:52I maintain a few websites.
00:51:54NateLund.com is a site for my own artwork.
00:51:59RagnarokStudio.com is public 3D artwork, tutorials, etc.
00:52:06And then BaronDixon.com.
00:52:08Tell us about the Baron Dixon website.
00:52:11Um, it's a site all about my cousin, Baron, who disappeared somewhere.
00:52:17Do you think he was taken to another planet?
00:52:20No, no. I knew you were going to ask that, but no.
00:52:24There's about 20 people or so that check into the message boards pretty much every day, if not twice a day.
00:52:30They post messages about where they think he might be.
00:52:33They talk about him. Take it way too seriously.
00:52:40So do you believe in aliens?
00:52:43I know there's aliens. They took Baron.
00:52:47Another thing I do with the website is, well, people can report sightings of Baron.
00:52:54Most of the sightings are along Interstate 25 and 40,
00:52:59and then there's a few in Wynnum, Minnesota and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
00:53:05We got relatives in both places.
00:53:10Most of the people I come in contact with think he was abducted.
00:53:15They're all a little bit like him.
00:53:19So you believe that you're going to go to the new planet?
00:53:24Why else would I be doing all this?
00:53:28What else do you do with the website?
00:53:31Um, it's the only one I make money with, because I sell T-shirts to help keep it going.
00:53:37This one here says, Where in the Galaxy is Baron Dixon?
00:53:41I don't believe he's out there.
00:53:44Everybody else does, and this is what sells, so it keeps people coming.
00:53:48The photo I got, it was from a birthday party for my brother.
00:53:53I also sell individual photos.
00:53:59Ah, now here's one guy claiming that he knows Baron Dixon's on the third moon of Pluton.
00:54:09Right.
00:54:20Did you enjoy being around Baron?
00:54:22No, no.
00:54:24Why not?
00:54:25He was creepy, actually.
00:54:27What was creepy about him?
00:54:30Well, he always had this thing where he'd want me to give him a piggyback ride.
00:54:33It was like a big hello.
00:54:35I don't know, I don't like that.
00:54:40How did I meet Baron?
00:54:42Well, when I joined the engineering faculty here, and that was a while ago now,
00:54:47I was a model rocket fanatic.
00:54:50I loved the whole process of designing rockets, gluing them together late at night,
00:54:57and then the next morning, going out on the range, slamming home a big engine,
00:55:03and whoosh, bang!
00:55:06I loved that.
00:55:08So I wanted to turn other people on to it, and I volunteered to teach a class at the Y.
00:55:14That's where I met a young Baron.
00:55:18He impressed me from the start.
00:55:21He was a smart kid, a curious kid.
00:55:23We learned a lot together.
00:55:26We designed some big rockets, and we shot them off.
00:55:31It was great fun.
00:55:33Do you believe that aliens may have taken him to another planet then?
00:55:39Well, aliens, I mean, to believe that, you've got to believe in aliens, and I'm a scientist.
00:55:45I don't believe in aliens.
00:55:47I don't believe that there are little green or gray or purple fellows
00:55:54swooping around in a spacecraft, grabbing people,
00:55:59taking them up for medical experiments or for travel to other planets or whatever.
00:56:06What hard evidence is there of that?
00:56:08No, I don't believe that.
00:56:10Then do you believe that he may have staged his disappearance then?
00:56:15Well, like I said, I don't believe in aliens,
00:56:19but there are facts, a couple of facts about his disappearance
00:56:24that I've thought a lot about and that trouble me.
00:56:29First, his dog.
00:56:32He loved his dog, and he loved his dog, and he really loved his dog.
00:56:38It just didn't seem to me to be like him just to abandon his dog.
00:56:43I mean, if he wanted to stage his disappearance and then to start a new life,
00:56:48why didn't he just stage the abduction of his dog?
00:56:51I mean, aliens are supposed to swoop down and abduct cattle, right?
00:56:58So why not a dog?
00:57:00I mean, it would have seemed credible.
00:57:03The second thing is his car.
00:57:06His car was found in the middle of nowhere, 30 miles from the nearest bus stop.
00:57:13If he staged his abduction, he left himself an awful long walk.
00:57:18Why wouldn't he have just staged an abduction from a vacant lot
00:57:24or from behind a restaurant?
00:57:27It would have been far more convenient.
00:57:30So there are a couple of facts that trouble me about his disappearance.
00:57:34It seems strange to me, but I'm not saying he was abducted by aliens.
00:57:41It just bothered me.
00:57:43Do you think that Randy and Ed may have had something to do with his disappearance
00:57:48or helped him with his disappearance?
00:57:50Randy and Ed. Randy and Ed.
00:57:53They're such burnouts.
00:57:54I mean, I doubt that those guys could have concocted a story and a scheme
00:57:59that was coherent enough to fool the police,
00:58:02and they would have broken down.
00:58:04They would have gotten confused under interrogation.
00:58:06I mean, those guys, I mean, between their interest in explosives and recreational chemicals,
00:58:12I mean, they've burned so many brain cells.
00:58:15I doubt they could get it together to help out Barrett.
00:58:20Well, we got it all set here now.
00:58:25No, actually, it's a...
00:58:27Two bean burritos.
00:58:28Two fish burritos.
00:58:32And a pint of beans.
00:58:33And a pint of beans.
00:58:35That's all we need.
00:58:38That's good.
00:58:40Excellent, amigo.
00:58:53This is Barrett's apartment.
00:59:01My sister has several rentals in the area,
00:59:03so she's letting me keep the apartment so that when he...
00:59:08If he comes back, he'll have his own stuff and his own place.
00:59:16I kept everything just the way it was.
00:59:26Barron was a big fan of Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter.
00:59:30He felt that they were about to announce alien contact.
00:59:36But he kept records, and Ronald Reagan made five separate speeches referring to aliens.
00:59:45Jimmy Carter made three.
00:59:50I think Barron felt that if they made reference to alien contact,
00:59:56people would accept him more.
00:59:59And maybe not be so mean to him.
01:00:06Do you mind if we take a look around the place? Would that be all right?
01:00:10No, I don't mind at all.
01:00:12Okay.
01:00:13You go right ahead.
01:00:15It makes me a little sad being in here.
01:00:18If you don't mind, I'm going outside.
01:00:21Just take your time.
01:00:22Oh, thank you.
01:01:59Huh.
01:02:02Huh.
01:02:28Huh.
01:02:58Huh.
01:03:18Barron Dickson's apartment was searched.
01:03:21Smoking paraphernalia was found that was coated with a marijuana residue.
01:03:25A small amount of marijuana was also found.
01:03:28There is a concern.
01:03:31A great deal of information regarding serial killers was found in Barron's apartment.
01:03:36I'm afraid that he's going to kidnap my sister and kill her.
01:03:39He could do it. He's a psycho.
01:03:43We were also made aware that Mr. Dickson was making frequent contact with an ex-girlfriend.
01:03:50We were also told that he had said, before his disappearance,
01:03:54that he would be coming back to take his girlfriend with him.
01:03:58This department takes threats from ex-boyfriends very seriously,
01:04:02especially those that collect information on serial killers.
01:04:07Barron was not a violent person.
01:04:11I mean, I know all the police are freaked out because of all the serial killer books that he has,
01:04:16but he has all kinds of books.
01:04:18He has books on Buddhism and gardening, and he has the Bible,
01:04:21and he has medicinal herb books, and he has books on fishing and healing.
01:04:26I mean, why didn't they call him a great fisherman or a healer or something?
01:04:30I remember one time when Barron beat up his dad and his dad had to go to the hospital
01:04:35because Barron broke both his dad's feet.
01:04:41Well, Randy claims that Barron broke both your feet.
01:04:46Broke my feet? No.
01:04:49I tripped, twisted my ankle or something, tripping over a dead dog or a toy or something.
01:04:55My name is Cynthia Lynn Bell.
01:04:58My daughter dated Barron Dickson.
01:05:01I didn't like Barron from the first moment that I met him,
01:05:06and my distrust of him only served to fuel Kathy's interest.
01:05:11She dated him just to rebel against me.
01:05:15My mom hated Barron more than I did.
01:05:18And that's saying something, because I really hated him.
01:05:22He went on and on about aliens and spaceships.
01:05:27He even went on to intimate to me that he had been chosen to help populate another world,
01:05:35to manage some workers or something.
01:05:39He was very scary, frightened me.
01:05:42My mom used to ask me if Barron ever hit me.
01:05:45Barron would never hit me.
01:05:48He was always the hero.
01:05:50He would have protected me at all costs.
01:05:52He would have saved me no matter what.
01:05:56Or organize workers, to move everybody to another planet.
01:06:02This is a grown man, and he's dating my daughter.
01:06:08Barron surprised me one day.
01:06:11He almost ran up to me.
01:06:14He was very excited that he wanted to show me something.
01:06:17So he took out his wallet, and he flipped out a picture.
01:06:21The picture was of a lovely, really beautiful young woman.
01:06:25He told me it was his girlfriend.
01:06:28We talked a little bit, and he seemed very excited and very in love.
01:06:34The whole incident kind of took me aback,
01:06:37because I hadn't seen Barron with a girl really ever before.
01:06:42I think this girl was perhaps his first love.
01:06:47Maybe he was in love for the first time in his life.
01:06:51I don't know.
01:07:21I don't know.
01:07:51He's a stalker.
01:08:09He's stalking my daughter.
01:08:11He was stalking her before the alleged abduction,
01:08:15and he's stalking her now, I'm sure of it.
01:08:18Well, he just looked like a complete psychopath.
01:08:20I mean, all of my friends were afraid of him, even the guys.
01:08:25It was nice when Barron got his own apartment,
01:08:28because we could finally be together, I mean, really together.
01:08:34It was nice to be secretive,
01:08:37being away from everybody and all their opinions,
01:08:40and it was just really nice.
01:08:51On December 7th, 1997,
01:08:54a missing persons report was filed on Miss Catherine Bell.
01:09:01The last person to have seen Miss Bell was her sister,
01:09:06a Miss Kristen Bell.
01:09:09I saw my sister drive off.
01:09:12She was in her car.
01:09:14I saw my sister drive off.
01:09:16She was by herself.
01:09:17She was perfectly happy, probably the happiest I'd ever seen her.
01:09:21She told me that she loved me, that she was going to miss me.
01:09:25And then she drove off, and she never came back.
01:09:28So you believe that she's with Barron and she's alive and well?
01:09:33Yes, I do.
01:09:35When interviewed, Kristen said that her sister
01:09:38seemed to be in very bad shape.
01:09:40When interviewed, Kristen said that her sister
01:09:43seemed to be in very good spirits,
01:09:45and that she spoke to her for several minutes.
01:09:49Catherine then told her sister
01:09:51she was going to another planet to live with her boyfriend,
01:09:55Mr. Barron Dixon.
01:09:59Miss Bell then got into her own vehicle,
01:10:04by herself,
01:10:06and drove away under her own free will.
01:10:20How do you account for Kristen's sudden change of mind
01:10:26and now believing that her sister is with Barron and that she's fine?
01:10:32She's a little kid. She'll believe anything.
01:10:37Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett were questioned that evening
01:10:41and later released.
01:10:45What happened to you guys once Cathy disappeared?
01:10:49Well, I'll give you three fucking guesses.
01:10:52Here come the cops.
01:10:54First thing they did was write a star ass up.
01:10:56Crawling all over.
01:10:57As if we know what happened.
01:10:59We told them, Barron's in space.
01:11:02What do you want from us?
01:11:05So, what do you believe happened to your friend, Cathy Bell?
01:11:12Oh, Barron probably kidnapped her,
01:11:14and God knows what he did with her after that.
01:11:18He's a disgusting pervert.
01:11:23Well, see the good thing is,
01:11:26is if they came back for Cathy, like Barron said,
01:11:30then they should be coming back for us.
01:11:33They'd just have to come back, I guess,
01:11:36and get people one at a time.
01:11:39That's what I figure.
01:11:41I can't wait. They can't get here soon enough.
01:11:44I'll leave all this shit behind.
01:11:46What is it?
01:11:48Some sort of picnic.
01:11:50Barron's involvement with Randy and Ed concerned me.
01:11:54He brought them over to the house a few times
01:11:56and I could see those boys were into the wrong kinds of things.
01:12:01As soon as they saw this lab equipment around here,
01:12:04well, their eyes lit up,
01:12:06and they were asking me,
01:12:08well, how can we make this explosive or that explosive?
01:12:12And I was just saying,
01:12:14no, no, we don't want to get into that.
01:12:17Doesn't look good for us.
01:12:21They're just going to believe what they want to believe,
01:12:23and there's not much we can do.
01:12:25Probably try to pin it on us.
01:12:27Why not?
01:12:28Someone's got to take the fall.
01:12:31They seemed morbidly interested in that kind of thing,
01:12:35and then when I said no, no,
01:12:38there would be no creation of explosives in my house,
01:12:41they wanted to cook up some drugs,
01:12:43and then that evening, too,
01:12:45they wanted to cook up some acid speed,
01:12:49and I just said, hey, no, don't talk about this.
01:12:53They'll be coming back for us.
01:12:55They can't get here soon enough for me.
01:12:57I'm right up to here with this bullshit.
01:12:59I'd leave all this behind in a second.
01:13:02Move on with my life.
01:13:07Every time they came over,
01:13:09they seemed excited.
01:13:10They'd be like children,
01:13:11and wanted me to come out to their souped-up car
01:13:14and look in the trunk,
01:13:15and they'd have more guns,
01:13:17and some types I thought were probably illegal,
01:13:20automatic weapons, ammunition, and so on.
01:13:23So I was concerned and uncomfortable
01:13:26about his association with these two.
01:13:29It just seemed like they were into bad stuff.
01:13:54You keep putting them on me.
01:13:56I don't love you.
01:13:57I love you.
01:14:18Do you think you'll ever get out of jail?
01:14:21Do you think you'll ever see Kathy again?
01:14:27No.
01:14:30No one listens to us.
01:14:32No one listens to me.
01:14:33Fuckers.
01:14:34I don't give a shit.
01:14:35I'd sooner take my chances with the aliens than I would...
01:14:37I hope the aliens come back before the cops come back, Doug.
01:14:39That's what I mean.
01:14:40I'd rather be with the fucking aliens.
01:14:42My whole life's been in the shit van for months now.
01:14:48And then they still come back at us.
01:14:51I'll tell you what,
01:14:52it don't look good for me and Randy here.
01:14:54This is probably the end for me and Ed.
01:14:59My sister came home and told me she was going away,
01:15:02that two people had come up to her in the parking lot
01:15:04and asked if she wanted to go to the new planet
01:15:06to live with Barron.
01:15:08And of course she said yes.
01:15:10She's incredibly happy.
01:15:13She came home, gave me a hug,
01:15:15gave me this letter,
01:15:17and then she drove off.
01:15:20I'll read the letter.
01:15:24Dear Mom and Sis,
01:15:26I don't know how to say this so that you'll believe me,
01:15:28so I'll just be blunt.
01:15:30I'm going to go to another planet to live with Barron.
01:15:33We're going to live in a community with other people from Earth.
01:15:37The new planet is very clean and is unexplored.
01:15:40There are no businesses and no government and no money.
01:15:43Everyone is working together to build big gardens
01:15:46with sculptures, murals, and paintings.
01:15:48I know it sounds crazy and I know it sounds impossible,
01:15:51but I want you to believe me.
01:15:53The new planet is beautiful.
01:15:55I love you guys.
01:15:57I'll miss you.
