Doctors in India discovered a two to three-inch long insect that had been living inside a man’s ear.

The male had been complaining of a bizarre ear itch. After medical staffers learned the cause of the trouble was a live cricket that had burrowed itself head first inside the patient’s inner ear, doctors began the efforts to remove it.

Tweezers were used to reach inside the cavity. When the tool latched onto the cricket, a doctor started pulling it out. The cricket, however, wasn’t allowing that to happen easily.

Right after the insect was tugged out of the man’s inner ear, it thrashed and wriggled, seemingly trying to go right back where it came from.

It even latched onto the earlobe for a bit. Fortunately the medical staffer kept a firm grip on the tweezers and pulled it entirely out.

An expert on invertebrate biology, Michael Sweet commented “Crickets like warm countries and hide during the day. It is likely this cricket crawled into the man’s ear while he was sleeping and was just hiding there until night came around.”
