Number 5: Ben Kingsley’s birth name was Krishna Bhanji. His father was a Kenyan-born physician of Indian descent and his mother was an English-born actress and fashion model.

Number 4: After seeing Kingsley perform in a musical, John Lennon and Ringo Starr urged the actor to change his focus to becoming a rock star. That same day he was offered to join the Chichester Festival theatre for a season and the rest is history.

Number 3: According to Kingsley, his mother, Anna Goodman, refused to recognize that he had been granted knighthood from the Queen. He states, “..my mother refused to acknowledge it had taken place. She was embarrassed and bitter and jealous.”


Number 2: The Oscar winner admitted that while recording for The Boxtrolls he fell asleep on the job. In order to get the sound he wanted, he did most of the work lying down. “It was a very relaxed recording session, and I did nod off occasionally."
