A study conducted at Baylor University in Texas found that college students spend a serious amount of time on their phones.

60 percent of those involved in the online survey said they think they may be addicted.

The research also shed light on which activities dominate usage and highlighted the ones deemed most habit forming.

Overall, the average student spends between 8 and 10 hours a day fiddling with their phone in one way or another.

Just under 100 hundred minutes of that is spent texting.

Other high usage times include emailing, which takes up about 50 minutes, and Facebook, which accounts for a bit over a half an hour.

Good chunks of the day’s phone pursuits are also focused on listening to music and checking the Internet.

Among the sites deemed most addictive were Pinterest and Instagram.

The concern for how phone time is spent goes much deeper than breaking down the day, however.

Said one researcher, “We need to identify the activities that push cellphone use from being a helpful tool to one that undermines our well-being and that of others.”
