Recently, a mother in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida was pulled over. While Broward County deputies were inspecting the situation and questioning the driver, 19-year-old Breona Watkins, they heard noises that sounded like a baby’s cries.

Soon, the cops opened up the trunk and located an infant. The baby was found lying on some items that the deputies described as dangerous.

Among them are pair of hedge-cutting shears, a fuel pump, old gas can, plastic bags and a rusted tire iron. The whole traffic stop was problematic.

When deputies tried to pull Watkins over, she reportedly kept driving for about half a mile. Watkins did not have a license and gave the cops a phony name.

And then, of course, there was the matter of the baby in the trunk. They later learned that when Watkins realized she was being pulled over she told her teenage passenger to get in the back seat and slide the baby through an access hole and into the trunk. She did so because she was worried she’d get a ticket for not having a car seat.

Prior to that, the infant had been sitting on the passenger’s lap. Watkins was arrested and is now facing charges of resisting an officer and child abuse along with five traffic-related offenses.

Her bond has been set at $7,000. Fortunately the baby is uninjured.
