Police in Gilchrist County, Florida are saying a man turned on his own family, killing his grown daughter and his six grandchildren.

On Thursday, 51-year-old Don Spirit called 911 to inform authorities he thought he might harm himself or other people. When police arrived on scene, Spirit shot himself.
The 7 other victims, who also died from gunshot wounds were located on the property which was owned by the shooter.
The victims have since been identified by police. The adult daughter is 28-year-old Sarah Lorraine Spirit. The six children are hers. Their ages are listed as 11,9,8 5, 4 and 2 ½ months.
Don Spirit has a long history with police. Reportedly officers were sent to the home in the past, however Sheriff Robert Schultz says there were no signs that would have led them to suspect Spirit would have ever done something like this and harm his own family intentionally.
In 2001, he mistakenly shot and killed his 8-year-old son while they were hunting. He spent three years in jail for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Neighbors in the tight knit community of Bell are left in shock.
