Funerals and wakes aren’t typically pleasant experiences for family and friends of the deceased. The relatives of a woman named Mary Anderson had it far worse than what’s considered the norm, as they found the wrong body in the casket.

Funerals and wakes are somber experiences for family and friends of the deceased. The relatives of a woman named Mary Anderson had it far worse than what’s considered the norm.

They arrived at Stevens Brothers Funeral Home in West Palm Beach for a viewing to find Mary wasn’t in her casket. Instead there was another body inside, dressed in Mary’s clothing.

Marvelle Freeman is the daughter of Mary. She remarked “We get here today for her wake, and it's not her. They have somebody else in all of her belongings.”

When staffers at the funeral home were confronted, they told the family a mistake occurred because there was another woman's body at the facility with the first name of Mary.

Employees said they would correct the major error, but the family was left wondering how such a mistake could be undone.

Mary’s body soon arrived at the funeral home in a van that had transported her remains from another location. The wake went on, however it was an hour behind schedule.

Relatives and friends attended, but they claim the funeral home mishap messed up the good memories and stories they should have been sharing.
